In my kit, I have a 320GB portable Hard drive used for backups as well as various software tools, such as:
-Recuva
-Microsoft Security Essentials 32/64 Bit
-Malwarebytes Antivirus
-Base Software installs such as Java/Adobe Reader/Flash/Chrome/Firefox etc
-Backup registry files that reset file association for Windows XP/Vista/7. Lately, I've seen a lot of people getting viruses that nerfs their system file associations.

I carry the following DVDs (These are legit copies btw, for when someone has a key but no Disc):
-Windows XP Home/Pro
-Windows Vista Home Premium 32/64bit
-Windows 7 Home Premium 32/64bit
-Windows 7 Pro 32/64bit
-Office 2007/2001
-Windows XP/Vista/7 Password Cracker Disc
-WinPE Disc

I also carry a standard PC tool-kit with various bits, tweezers, container to hold screws etc.
Spare Cat 5e cable
And my personal Laptop

I don't think MS cares one way or another if you have a copy of a copy of the Install media so long as your key is legit.

Volume licenses, TechNet, and MSDN all allow you to download ISOs. You used to be able to download an ISO of Vista for a trial that you could convert with a key... Not sure if one exists for 7, though.

What's the best tool for resetting Windows XP/7 passwords?

I guess I could be less of a smart arse from my previous post.

I usually carry around my knife.
RJ45/RJ11 crimpers
Flashlight
Screw drivers, normal and precision.
Drill
Fishing poles for running cable.
Cable testers.
Tape.
Spare screws.
Cable tracer
Butt-set for testing POTs lines.
Punch down tool.
1000' spool of cable.
A box of over 100+ 3ft network cables.

In fact, I seem to recall reading explicit, official statements from MS to the effect of "Anyone is welcome to most installation media, in almost all cases". They want us to have it and use it. Media on its own is useless without the license.

The only exceptions I've seen are versions of installers that are customized to certain OEMs. E.g., once upon a time, a Gateway XP Home disc only worked with a Gateway XP home key and you could only get the disc from Gateway. My understanding is they've all but completely ceased the practice of having different sets of keys for different media (e.g. any Windows 7 disc will work with an HP key for the correct edition).

I've always found 0phcrack to be good for recovering the passwords, and the "Offline Windows Password & Registry Editor" good for getting into systems with unrecoverable passwords.

You have to burn the ISO to a disk and boot with it. I've used it for a couple years on XP/Vista/7 Boxes without fail. There are some precautions though, just read the website.

For me, at most it would be:
4G phone or laptop
Spare hard drive
USB drive
UBCD
Malwarebytes, TDSKiller, Rkill
Some screw drivers, esd strap thing.

Usually when I go on site I just bring my phone unless I know I won't have access to any of that other stuff.

Have you been watching me?

haha. I usually leave it in the back of my car and measure out meters on the go. If I'm going to cable a new building I'll usually order 3 or 4 boxes of 500' - that way I can run 4 drops in one go.

I really should carry my external HDD around with me more, but I carry UBCD and some other bootable CD's. Most of my malware stuff is on my NAS which is easily accessible from anywhere.
