Contracting question

Hi Guys,

Im about to venture into the IT contracting market for the first time. Could anyone provide some do's and donts when going alone?

Also, when a advert states a daily rate, does that take into account how much the agency etc will take off you for their fee? Or is a daily rate a flat sum, the you minus agency fee's, taxes, umbrella stuff?

Sorry for the dumb ass questions but its not something i have looked into!

Any tips and links to websites would also be awesome. I will be contracting in Oz.

For me, the daily rate has what I charge the agency, exclusive of applicable extra taxes (VAT, GST, that type of thing).
