Getting Smart Card reader to work on thin client

mishymishy Member Posts: 209 ■■■□□□□□□□
We have some HP thin client desktop that run Linux and use VMware View 4.6 to login into a Windows 7 virtual desktop. We are having issues mapping through the USB Card reader device to be detected in the Windows 7 OS although on the thin client's linux terminal the device can be seen.

We have tried to manually add the PID for the device in the linux terminal but that hasnt made any changes when you login to Windows 7.

We connect to the OS using PCoIP and on the thin Client the USB ports are redirected to VMware although there is an option to map them locally.

If you are using card readers what have you had to do/configure to have them map through on Vmware Virtual desktops?

Are you able to get any USB devices to pass through and work?

Mass storage devices seem to be completely plug and play from my experiences, unless restricted by the thin/zero client configuration.

Yes we are getting some USB devices working like the mouse and keyboard. Also we can plug USB flash drives and they work ok. We have managed to get the Smart Card readers to work by disabling Linux from autoloading the devices when they plugged in so that Windows can use the device.

On Win Xp to get the smart card and other usb drives to work we have had to make some modifications to the registry for WinXp not to load the devices and thats how we get them to work on vmware view client.

We are still having issues with digital dictation devices though and everything we have tried is not working for them. Linux see the devices but when you run Win 7 using PCOIP on vmware 4.6 they are not being detected.
