Global Groups

I'm currently studying groups and it seems I am getting conflicting information on global groups. I know that global groups can contain users, computers, and other global groups from it's domain, but where is the group available? Some sources say it's domain and trusted domains, and others say all domains in the forest and trusted domains. So my question is where are global groups available?
