Win7 Vitual PC performance issues

paulgswansonpaulgswanson Member Posts: 311
When studying for the 70-680 and 70-685 I was going to make several virtual Pcs but I noticed something and I don't know if its unique to me or not so I figured it cant hurt anything except my pride to ask.

I'v mounted the Win7 Ultimate x64 via ISO in the settings tab and all but as soon as the Install Windows chose you language\time & Currency\Keyboard Type screen pops up and it lets you use the mouse for the first time there is some serious frame rate issues.

My laptop greatly exceeds the minimum system requirments to run the OS (Not to mention is I have Win7 as the core OS and it works flawlessly). But Iv tried to click things and mount the disk from various locations Desktop\USB\External Firewire SSD same result.

Is this a virutalization bug?

System Specs:
Win7 Ultimate x64
4Gb Ram
HP G60
Intel Celeron CPU @ 2.20GHz

How much RAM are you assigning to the VM, and does your Celeron support VT? Have you tried any other hypervisors, such as VirtualBox or VMware Workstation?

Iv assigned 2Gigs to the VM Since win7 ultimate min req is only 1Gig and the extra Gig just for permance increase. My Celeron does support VT, and it runs XP vms great.
I was trying to stick to Windows specific virtualization since there is a bit of that on the 680 and 685 so unfortunetly I should branch out to other 3rd parties for study purposes. icon_sad.gif

You need more RAM. Will probably need more CPU as well if you want to run multiple VMs.

Plus the default is only 16MB Video Ram .. you need to assign at least 64MB to have even a remote chance of running Aero .. it will also increase the useability during the install ..

Thx for your help with this. Unfortunetly I had to change to VMware (unfortuneate cause I wanted to uses Windows proprietary) and it installed just fine. You were all right though it was Video Ram that was the cause of issue.
