Finding an Entry-level Job

Hi,

I've been on the job hunt for a couple months now and I've done only 2 interviews. I've sent out applications to every single posting I've seen that I feel I have the experience for on Craigslist and a few on Monster. At this rate I feel its going to take several more months to get a job. Anybody have any advice on getting my foot into the door in an entry-level position? Also, I'm currently in my last semester for my AS in Networking Tech, I'm not sure if not having this discourages employers or something.

I'd try a temp agency to build the experience

Agreed, temp agencies are a great place to start. But you might need to goto a senior center or library and volunteer for a few months. Get a couple letters of recommendation and experience.

What's your cert list look like btw? Entry level now days seems to demand a few.

Location location... Where are you at? Some areas are just doing a lot better than others right now in IT hiring. Phoenix, NYC, SF and LA seems to be booming for IT people right now. You should consider relocating if needed.

    Best of luck!

If you're doing that many applications and not getting call backs then it might be time to look at yourself. Post up your resume for us to review(that's the issue most of the time), look at how you're applying and if you don't have any, pick up some entry level certs.

    Here is my updated resume...

I have a CCENT scheduled for July 18th which I'll be adding to the short list most likely.

    Resume

Relocating is an option that I have open and I have applied for positions all around my state. I've had one offer fall through though because it was against the employers policy to interview and hire non-local people. (Even though I stated I would relocate).

I'm just not sure how open employers from other states are to accept an entry-level employee that needs to relocate. For a more senior position I can see it, but entry level? Is it not unheard of?
