MISource, is it real?

I applied for a position at a company called MISource. It's a job that's suppose to be in Afghanistan on a military base, I guess a contractor. The pay is 120,000 for a year contract, WHAT? That's why I think it's a prank or scam. Does anyone know about this place?

That's common. Contractors over there typically make six figures, even for fairly basic work. We just lost our ex-Army helpdesk guy because he got an offer to repair helicopters in Afghanistan for well over $100K. I can't imagine IT contractors make any less, considering it's two to three times what he made to do the same job in the Army.

Very typical. I believe there are several individuals on here who work for one of the big-3 in Afghan: KBR,DynaCorp,Fluor.

Ok, I'm glad to here that's normal pay, but do anyone know about this company? The interviewer said I will have to have a few phone interviews with an HR and an Engineer over phone. He also stated I would have to gain a secret clearance (I have a clean background and good credit, hope that's good enough).

    I would be a Network engineer/Help desk/Field Tech.

Never heard of them, but a quick search shows what appears to be a valid company. Salary is not abnormal for working in a war zone (it's also tax free btw). Odd part is them willing to hire people without a clearance, that process can take up to 6 months (or more) and 90% of the time you can't do the job until it's finished (some places will do an interim clearance, but military are more likely to get that waiver than a contractor). It could also be that they are having a hard time finding someone with the skill to fill the slot, is willing to go there, and has a clearance. If that's the case, best 2/3 is what they're looking to find.

I think he means NACLC, but I would find that odd for an IT position as a SECRET is the minimum by DoD policy for all IAT levels (anyone with any type of elevated permissions, which would include help desk).

Of course, a NACLC is generally all it takes to get a SECRET (unless you've traveled a lot, like I have) so it could be that they send you off with an interim and the clearance is finalized while you're working.

$120,000K sounds really good. I think you are asking the wrong question. There is a reason why openings are plentiful and the pay is high.

Ask yourself this question: Self, what is my life worth?

Ask your employer: What is the plan to get me out of the country when things go bad?

Finally, ask yourself this question: Self, how fast can I run north to Turkey in the open desert?

All of those bases are zeroed in within 3 meters for major rocket attacks from Iran when things turn ugly. Those buildings housing Americans are top of the target list. Things will get nasty and there will be nowhere to hide when 2000 pounds of explosive are coming toward you at mach 3.

Additionally, as forces draw down in Garbagekanistan, it will become even more lawless and violent. Those who think the walled fortress is any consolation may want to take a look at history--check around the 1970s and let me know what you find. Anyone who thinks other wise should consider a new brand of Kool-aid.

Not trying to discourage you. Just making sure you are looking at more than the coin. It's a very dangerous place.
