    Catalog Manager or Business Process Engineer would be great.

    Right now I'll settle for SAP analyst, system analyst, or project/service lead. First two I have had some serious hits on. I can smell the payday, (I hope)

    Open source specialist seems interesting.

    Good luck on the those hits.

    I have an interview tomorrow. I don't even know the title for the position, I got so excited about getting an interview that I forgot to ask what's it's foricon_lol.gif I know it's IT related because of the recruiting company. The salary matches my goals as well.

    Nice to hear about number 4@ though when we go full blown IPV6 and full blown VOIP I think it would jump up a spot or two. After reading this, I should really pump out those ITIL certifications at some point I think it would be foolish not to.

    The article appears to be largely conjecture and doesn’t cite any actual evidence. I wish authors of these types of articles are more transparent with the fact that they are actually speculating about these jobs. The only hint in this article that this is intended to be speculative is the statement “examine 10 IT job titles that could gain traction in 2010”. It’s also interesting that the author site a growing demand for “social computing skills” but none of the jobs appear to be related. Some of the jobs – while important to a large enterprise – I doubt that there are really a lot of actual jobs for those roles.

    @Concerned – good luck on your interview tomorrow. I hope it goes well. icon_thumright.gif

    Thanks. It looks like a small company, which means I might be able to get my hands on a little bit of everything.

    @Paul

    Yeah the article was fairly blah, but the titles that it list is a good reference point to align your skills with IMO. Most people think of networking admin, system admin, developer, help desk, desk side support, etc

    A lot of these are specific but very real positions a lot of younger IT professionals are not aware of.

    Dave as weird as this may sound you are the first person I thought of when I saw that position.

    Very fair point. And yes, you are correct, others may not be aware of the possible roles that do exist in IT. This is an interesting list from that perspective.

    My reaction is largely because the article gives the perception that these job titles are abundant and companies are hiring to fill these jobs. I was thought it amusing to see "Open Source Specialist" when the quote is actually for software developers who have experience with various scripting languages and the reasoning could have applied to any non-open source technology.

    Part of my concern about this particular article is that it could give younger IT professionals a false perception of the availability of various information technology jobs and the type of jobs.

    Had the interview, it went well. It's what I thought, a position that's a little bit of everything (SAP, VMware, HP switches, Server 2008 and help desk). The problem is that he is also interviewing several others. It's a great opportunity for experience, but so much competition.

    @CW

    For service desk that sounds like a really good opportunity. SAP, VM, Server, nice!

    There's iMac's and Linux servers too. The manager wants an IT that can handle house while he leaves for weekly meetings. If I do get a second interview it'll be more drilling from another Sr. Systems Admin. If I make it to interview three, I got the job. Hope I get it, there's not going to be an opportunity like this for a while.

    @CW - That does sounds like a great opportunity. With that diversity of technology and different things you could be exposed to - what a great way to build experience. Best of luck to you.
