Conflicting information

How many times have you seen info in one book conflict with info in another?
Situation...one book I was reading comments maximum FAT partition size for XP is 2GB, but with maximum cluster size of 64KB (or 128 sectors). Doing the math shows this to be 4GB so I checked out other sources.
M$ KB has one article saying max size is 2GB, but for W98, ME, with another article showing 2000 and XP max is 4GB.
XP Help and Support Centre shows the max size as 4GB, yet MS Press for 70-271 says the max size is 2GB.
The first question is just rhetorical, but I would appreciate comments on the second situation.
