First Day

First Day at the new job yesterday. Finally got through the clearance process. Here's a mini run-down...
It was a lot of fun, but boy there is a world of difference between IT and Night Audit (hospitality), and I see the most difference in the way management manages. I swear I'm finally being treated like an adult and not a kid!
Talking to my shift lead at the new gig, I told him of my certification plan and he said that he doesn't put much weight into certifications because he feels like all you do is just read a book and pass a test. I can agree on some fronts but I got this job because of my A+ and so ironically so did he. Don't know if that's going to sway me from going for my CISCO certs.
LOTS of room for growth I see. In a month, my PM said she'll post my resume on the job board for the company and walk me around to the other APM's in order see if I would be a good fit in another department. (New Department = more pay, yay!) So good, so far and I can tell if you just put some time in, IT can be very rewarding. Just a little inspiration for those who are just getting started like me, or are looking for something in this field.
Cheers!

IT is great, and I agree with you about the way most managers are in IT are different. -

Yeah, the only thing this bothering me is the schedule change process. I am still working my night job right now because of some underlying issues (last job didn't want to let me go to part-time, already given a start date for the new job, had to quit old job but there is a week that I have to work both) but it's all good because they really aren't hard.Goals for 2015: CCNP -

I wouldn't let him sway you for the CCNA. If you want it, go for it. It'll atleast show to your company you're willing to expand your horizons.
My first day at the current job was trying to clean up the dock, then my office, then the back storage rooms... urgh. If I had pictures now of what it was like then. *shudder*In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

^1+ Absolutely. Dude, I am still afraid to see what exactly is in the bottom of my cabinet at my desk. LOL. I'll explore that on Monday and leave my weekend work-free and pleasant.
As for swaying me, I totally agree. I think that with a lot of individuals earning certifications, we have to had a good stern head on our shoulders because most certs don't GUARANTEE anything. They help but they may or may not qualify us. I am getting my CCNA regardless because this is what I want to do and what I want to learn about.Goals for 2015: CCNP -
