7961g giving trouble registering

I have cisco 7961g registered and all worked fine except for one. I did a tftp debug events for the ones that work and this is the output i get:

*Jul 10 18:09:15.642: TFTP: Looking for CTLSEP001930C8A192.tlv
*Jul 10 18:09:15.762: TFTP: Looking for SEP001930C8A192.cnf.xml
*Jul 10 18:09:15.770: TFTP: Opened flash:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault7961.cnf.xml, fd 7, size 1192 for process 202
*Jul 10 18:09:15.778: TFTP: Finished flash:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault7961.cnf.xml, time 00:00:00 for process 202

it then goes through the process and registers but the phone that doesnt seem to be working right has this output:

*Jul 10 16:26:44.343: TFTP: Looking for CTLSEP001AE22A69DC.tlv
*Jul 10 16:26:44.487: TFTP: Looking for SEP001AE22A69DC.cnf.xml
*Jul 10 16:26:44.567: TFTP: Looking for XMLDefault.cnf.xml
*Jul 10 16:26:44.575: TFTP: Opened flash:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault.cnf.xml, fd 7, size 2993 for process 202
*Jul 10 16:26:44.591: TFTP: Finished flash:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault.cnf.xml, time 00:00:00 for process 202

the problem is its looking for the XMLDefault.cnf.xml instead of just opening the flash:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault7961.cnf.xml. what can i do to remedy the situation. Both phones are looking for the same load which is TERM41.7-0-3-0S.loads

I had a similar situation that a phone came in looking for sip loads and i changed the settings in the sip xml file to point it the sccp loads and surely it worked. But not to sure if the same idea would work?

Try initiating a factory reset on the phone:

Reset the 7941 and 7961 IP Phones to the Factory Default
    Complete these steps:

1.Unplug the power cable from the phone, and then plug in the cable again.

The phone begins its power up cycle.

2.Immediately press and hold # and while the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash in sequence, release #.

The line buttons flash in sequence in order to indicate that the phone waits for you to enter the key sequence for the reset.

3.Press 123456789*0# within 60 seconds after the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash.

If you repeat a key within the sequence, for example, if you press 1223456789*0#, the sequence is still accepted and the phone resets.

If you do not complete this key sequence or do not press any keys, after 60 seconds the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.

If you enter an invalid key sequence, the buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.

If you enter this key sequence correctly, the phone displays this prompt:

    upgrading
    CCNP:Collaboration, CCNP:R&S, CCNA:S, CCNA:V, CCNA, CCENT

well this morning i restarted everything and surely enough it registered fine. Idk why the hell it would cause issues all day yesterday. But i reset it several times from the router to see if i'd have the same issue and turned debug tftp back on. Surely it worked if it aint broke cant fix it i suppose. Thanks for the reply though much appreciated.

The one that works pulls XMLDefault7961 and the one not working is just pulling XMLDefault

when you debug tftp events now what do you see?

    edit

looks like i didnt read the entire post because you mentioned it.

did you do anything to telephony services?
