State of IT in North Carolina

I am thinking about moving to North Carolina in a year or two because of the way of living. I'm 25 years old and have about a year of IT related experience (mostly as DST). I am planning on going to an part-time IT program for 5 months and complete a 8 months internship on top of that and currently working on my CCNA (end of October) and then my CCNP (tentative).

If anyone that works in IT in NC, what is the job market good for an entry-level job? Thanks.

Probably Durham for RTP and all the high tech companies that are there plus the school. All of those places usually need desktop techs etc, but it has a higher cost of living compared to other parts of NC.

I too have been very interested in moving to NC, specifically raleigh area. My research has found that there are a decent amount of tech jobs and its a great area to live in. However, it is a higher cost of living area considering its in the southeast and also jobs are a little more difficult to get. The raleigh area is considered one of the most educated places in the country, so the requirements for a lot of specialty IT positions seem to require a higher level of education. Nothing wrong with any of that though, just letting ya know what I have found.

The Raleigh-Durham area definity has alot of tech companies. You just have to find the right job. I was able to land an entry level job for a major company earlier this year through a staffing company. I had been on the job market awhile though...

I have been thinking about moving to Charlotte for the past couple months, even went up there for a weekend to check out places to live. The city has a ton going on and there is a lake to go hang out at as well and not to mention the night life is on point. I shot my resume around to a couple different opportunities and got some good feed back but alas it looks like I am in VA for at least another year icon_rolleyes.gif

I like Charlotte, I visited a lot when I lived in Blacksburg, there was a lot to do there but not sure about tech jobs. I assume there would be a decent number in an area like that.

No, I moved up there because my fiance goes to VT. I worked at an army data center in Radford.

I absolutely love the area though.

Anyone with IT experience and a decent work record would have their pick of jobs in Charlotte or Raleigh. Not sure about entry level.

Ya that town is great...I went to VT but had to move back to Richmond. I still go up for every home game though and to visit my brother who lives there, love it.

I've lived in Charlotte for a few years now I moved here in October of 2010 and found a full time job in February 2011. I've been gainfully employed with the same company since. Charlotte is a good area you just need to watch where you live. There are a lot of good companies and obviously it all depends on the market when you get down here.

Its a great city and there is always something going on. If you have any questions I'll be happy to try and answer to the best of my abilities. Reply to this thread or PM me.
