Am I spending my weekends rebuilding my deck, fence...No. Am I neglecting my wife and daughter? No. What I am doing is busting my arse. Hobbies are all gone, it's all about school. I've done 35 cus and after Tuesday, I'm looking at 42 cus completed in 3 months. When i started, I was planning on taking 3-4 terms. The rate I'm going, I'll be done in little more than 1 term (8-9 months). Everyone's situation is different. If you can't devote the time, then you can't. But, if you can...and that there is the beauty of WGU. I personally wouldn't do the certs on my own dime. I'd study like crazy for them though. There's nothing to stop you from learning all the material and knocking a bunch of classes out as soon as you start.

If we figure the average student does 30cu's a term (very generous imo) and the average certification costs $200 and gets you 6 cu's. Each certification represents 1/5th of your term. Your term costs $3,000. So that Cert costs you $600 but you could have gotten it for $200 on your own.

If you knockout A+, Net+ and a Microsoft cert + 2 classes in 6 months thats 24 credits right there and hardly a challenge imo. During my undergrad I always tried to break things down in to 3 7 week blocks, in each block I would try to knock out one class and one cert. In the beginning I could do both within 3 weeks for the easier ones.

I second the option of studying for a cert or two before your start date and requesting the voucher on day 1. Good luck with it! I start my MS on the 1st of Sept. and i'm currently studying for one of the certs now as well.
