Does Your LinkedIn Headline Suck? | The Daily Muse

Honestly, I didn't know that I could modify the headline - I always figured that it changed when your current job info changed. Good to know... Looks like I'll be doing a little Linkedin updating this weekend.

I also didn't know it could be changed. I'll definitely have to give that an update next time I'm in the market for a job.

How about this as a headline:

Overworked and underpaid server tech who hates his job wants $150,000 year Network Engineers job. icon_lol.gif

I have a custom LinkedIn headline because my job title is unusual and does not reveal what I do.
So the headline says that I am a sysadmin primarily doing security analyst type of work.

Interestingly enough, this week I was approached by two different recruiters looking to fill the same position that bridges sysadmin and security teams. My headline almost word-for-word matched summary of the job description and so I cannot help but think that it was this headline that put me on these recruiters' radars.
