If you are looking for help desk positions get a mcts in windows 7 and maybe one in Active Dir. It should provide you with more options.

Recommend any books and practice exams? I figured I would get my ccent then ccna and linux+ and if I can't get a job with those then I give up lol

Well if linux is your poison and theres a market for it around then go for it. Depending what you see as common requirements on job postings I'd plan my next cert based on that. I don't see many jobs asking linux experience but when I do I see they have no problem paying for it.

Well, I was trying to stick to what college wanted me to get degrees in while I was going. Wish I would've tried harder than I did in college now I'm paying for it in the long run. lol Live and learn I guess... But I just order a mcts book, I already got a ccent book. I guess that'll be what I shoot for next.

Did you take dmarisco's advice and actually look at job postings in your area and see how many desired a ccent + mcts that sound interesting to you and pay well enough? Neither of these plans (ccent + ccna + linux+ vs. ccent + mcts) ring of careful consideration to me.

(Maybe you already did that legwork and I missed it in the thread.)

I dont think he did the leg work. Did you really just order a mcts book? I thought you wanted to do linux.. You have to see what is in demand around you before making any purchases. Don't worry about what certs they wanted you to get in college you moved on already and now you are in the real world. No more hand holding you have to do some research and figure out where do you want to take your career. Don't start taking random certs to get a job figure out a game plan and take it from there.

I order me a CCENT book and going to get how 2 pass.

How 2 pass is a **** site, you don't want that if you are serious about getting into IT. You can train someone who honestly failed an exam, but you can't train cheaters, so nobody will ever hire you if they suspect you're a ****.

Why are you even considering practice questions when you haven't even started reading Cisco material anyway? You only need that to test if you're ready for the exam, but you have a long time before that comes.

@carmargoville - if you are unsure of what a brain **** is or how to identify legitimate training materials, you can always check here: Search

What @astrogeek said is very true - you ought to avoid the use of ****.

I had Cisco classes in College. I just never took the exams, as I said in past posts, I'm going back to restudy and take exams now. It's like refreshing my mind, I don't consider it cheating since I've actually took courses. Yes, I did order a CCENT book and a MCTS book. Also Spencerian now offers a microsoft course which wasn't offered whenever I went lol, so I figured why not try to get a Microsoft cert? Couldn't hurt. Besides it was used and like 20 bucks off of Amazon. Its a Windows World AMIRITE? lol

Also I did have a great interview the other day in Lexington, KY. With a company called IT Networking Consultants. Getting my foot in the door possibly with a Installation Tech and moving in the path of IT. So I mean its something he was very impressed with my current resume, actually said he wished he had the authority to tell me to start monday haha. So it's all looking up fellas.

As for jobs, I've noticed a lot here in kentucky people are looking for Citrix certified(CCA), which is something I didn't have in college but I have a few friends from highschool that have them. Might try to get a book on that too.

I know what a brain **** is, actually tried one for the Security+ luckily I studied the book too I ordered or I wouldn't have passed that thing sucked it didn't have one answer in the 250+ questions and answers it had. They was terrible. Only reason I had it was to take to work and during breaks have something in my hand to read off real quick.

That probably explains how you got dual AA degrees, yet still have the English skills of a 5th grader. Enjoy your paper certs and degrees! icon_rolleyes.gif

    ... I don't consider it cheating...
That's very unfortunate to hear. It's probably not worth getting into another useless discussion about brain ****. The vast majority of IT professionals consider brain **** an anathema.

Ultimately, personal integrity and professional ethics is something that each person needs to reach on their own. Good luck in your journey.

Didn't know I went to school to be an English major? Apparently you can't read, I even said the brain **** didn't have nothing on it, not even one question. You need to go back to 1st grade and learn how to read. I clearly stated it wasn't the only tool I used. Moron.

How was that remotely helpful? Saying I have the English of a 5th grader? Not here to talk about English are we, If I decide to write me a novel I'll let you proof read it. I appreciate all the actually constructive criticism but not the flaming, was totally uncalled for. After I explained myself pretty thoroughly and honestly about a BRAIN ****. There is nothing wrong with reading questions and trying to answer them is there? I also stated it wasn't the main source of my study material.
    Anyways it's whatever.
Update about my job pursuit I did have a great interview Friday, and will probably take the position and I owe a-lot of credit to this forum for helping me get my foot into the door.

Look don't worry what other people say you already have your resume and bought your books don't waste your time in little spats with someone else. Thats just counter-productive wasting on time arguing just focus your energy on studying and practicing in a lab to get the certs. Once you know your stuff it'll help you in the interview.

I don't really care if anyone uses ****, ultimately they will realize why its not a good idea. Paul78 said it by far better than I could have. However, I don't understand the rational in opening a thread asking for help with getting a good IT job, then berate someone who is trying to lead you in the right direction.

That's all I have to say, its not worth arguing. Congrats on the new job, hopefully it lasts a bit longer than your previous IT positions.
