I am, right after I become a Navy SEAL, obtain ITIL Master, Microsoft Architect and steal Alicia Keys from Swizz Beatz.

CCIE is about as high as I will pursue. Learning is continuous, but when you get to that level, it comes at the expense of family, friends, etc. High-level certs like this are a lonely, expensive difficult path.

"An initial fee of US$3,750 is paid to review the candidate’s qualifications and conduct the initial interview"

I imagine the audience is those who are on the design track and already have at least a CCDE, since if you're not on the design track, the CCIE is still top the certification in the market. It also would be geared towards those who sell primarily Cisco-focused solutions.

(I don't see one-time $15k fee as a big deal if you're mostly selling Cisco gear. Being able to say you're clearly better than the competition is a definite market advantage.)

I also think someone on that level will not take decision based on fee!

This is what I was thinking. I feel like someone who can obtain this cert is probably smart/qualified enough that their current situation, money is not an issue. As well, after obtaining the cert, I feel like you could go to most companies and tell them how much they're going to pay you. There's probably only like 5 people with the cert, and they all work on the Cisco review board to get the cert, lol.

I thought that the first two Architects went to HP?

I agree. CCIE is an exam where you mostly sacrifice a lot to get. Now, there's those that haven't.

What, is it a big deal for a CCIE to save up 15k? In the worst case, just use a credit card and they pay as long as you live :)
