Password policy

I need to change the password policy on Window 7. How can I do this changes.

    For clarification, are you talking about a domain? Or local security policy?

    run->secpol.msc->Account Policies->Password Policy.

    I tried but didn't work. respond with "Window 7 can't find this file".

    Are you saying that when you enter "secpol.msc" from the Command Prompt or from the Search Programs and Files text box, it gives you that error?

    You can also start the Local Security Policy applet from the Control Panel. It's in the Administrative Tools group.

    Are you using at least Windows 7 Professional? The lower editions (Home Premium, Starter, etc) do not have a local Group Policy editor

    Just occurred to me: Local Security Policy is only available on Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise editions.

    Would you be using a Home Premium, Home Basic, or Starter edition? If you are using the later editions, that would explain why secpol.msc isn't found.

    If that indeed is the problem, my professional side would recommend you do an AnyTime upgrade to at least the Professional edition. Easy enough to do: click on Start and type in the search box "windows anytime upgrade" and click on the utility. Pay Microsoft by credit card, and your PC will be upgraded. The other alternative would be to check craigslist or eBay for an anytime upgrade; may be able to score a cheaper price.

    My unprofessional response is to check your search engine or yourtube with the keywords "home premium gpedit secpol local security policy" or something of that sort. There are tweaks floating around might meet your need. You may be putting the integrity of your Windows 7 at risk, however. Install one of these tweaks only if you know what how to recover a broken Windows and have a good backup of your PC files/volumes.

    Windows 7 Home Premium doesn't have secpol.msc (Local Security Policy editor). That requires the Professional or Ultimate version.
