Breaking into Service Provider

For those of you who were established in supporting enterprise networks (noc tier3 / engineer), did you need to start from bottom when breaking into a Service Provider role? Did you take a pay cut?

I've spent most of my career on the provider side, but we hire plenty of people that have high level enterprise experience. They don't have to start at the bottom, but probably not going to make a complete lateral move if they are at a high level on the enterprise side of the house.
