CCNA questions.......

Couple of questions concerning the CCNA.... First off, I know this one has been answered before, but what is the bare requirments for the lab? What is recommened for the lab to get a broader feel for whats going on? And is the CCNA due for a update anytime soon? I ask these questions because I am taking a independent study in the spring semester at school, and would like to purchase my lab in the next couple of months. I do not want to buy the materials only to find out an update went down and I need more recent equipment/books/etc. Thanks...
