ptilsen Member Posts: 2,835 ■■■■■■■■■■Something that I haven't seen come up in these threads is the impact your certifications had on the hiring process. Do you know if the new company interviewed or hired you with any of your certifications as major factors? Were your CISSP, MCSE, or CCNA heavily discussed, or was the focus largely on other areas not directly relating to certification?

Iristheangel Mod Posts: 4,133 ModMy CCNA and degree got me the interview. My knowledge got me the job because I could pass a technical interview. The CISSP was mentioned since the hiring manager was one but I would have gotten the job without it

I have looked at the CISSP a couple times now, but the 4-5 year experience requirement I'm not sure I will meet that anytime soon. -

Roguetadhg Member Posts: 2,489 ■■■■■■■■□□Well, I'd say I'm jealous. But i'm already sure everyone here is already. So my only contribution to this thread is:
... Im busy upgrading my new 3550 switch:
I haven't seen people look at me so strangely before after I (quite loudly) said "Yippie Skippy!". And I've done some really dorky things in my life, let me tell ya.
Anyways! congratulations on the job. I am jealous. But I hope that I can reel in a good spot like you have with some hardware experience. That in itself is worth more than any emulator/simulator business! Best 80 bucks I've spent!
I've been thinking about building a car-thing for studying. I had a lot of driving time this weekend (went to Pennsylvania to see family). I was tossing around ideas for a tablet mount at the dash board. The downside, you'd need to raise your chair to get a more down viewing angle - and if you have a sports car... that may not be an option. The second thought was have it mounted towards the corner of the A (Correct?) pillar between the wheel and the frame. I was also tossing around the idea for a sort of display like the Prius/Camaro use to display car information. But ultimately, I think the best spot for a book would be a replacement lcd screen instead of the tach/rpm guage. Have it flip pages by wheel-controls.
Of course, this is me trying to remember that "pretending" like I was reading was pretty darn dangerous. Definitely something that's better not done in traffic. However, in traffic jams, and long stretches of road, it's not that bad. a 12 hour trip is a half-way decent trial.
I was also thinking about Augmented reality, as how it might be possible for it to be implemented by way of toyota/chevy technology. Probably would use a sort of GPS mapping to get the correct lane maped out, if there isn't a way to detect the reflectors. But at which point do reflectors from trucks/cars interfere with the road reflectors. What about roads without reflectors?
Anyways. A ticket just popped in!
Oh. CCNA:Security, Boo. That sounds like your ticket. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

Iristheangel Mod Posts: 4,133 ModThanks for the well wishes. Things are going well this week. I'm getting scheduled for a 3 day Cisco ISE training so I'm excited for that.
I've been slowly getting more work put on me in the last week but it's easily manageable. My boss looked at me today and said "Are you starting to feel overwhelmed now that we have you busy?" and was shocked when I responded with a steady "No." I guess my time working at the MSP for the last three months pretty much gave me nerves of steel and everything else seems less busy. Better work and more learning opportunities, but less crazy.
Anyways, popping in and out of the forums when I have a chance. WGU, work, and Los Angeles traffic is keeping me insanely busy. The MSISA program is nothing to scoff at but I'm getting through it. It makes me happy to see everyone's posts about passing their exams! Keep it up, guys!
