WGU One Term Finish

dragonshizdragonshiz Member Posts: 78 ■■□□□□□□□□
Hello all, after being motivated by Swild's awesome 1 term finish forum thread I decided to start my own. Coming into WGU I was able to transfer in 74 CU's which left 47 to be finished. That equals out to 12 classes. Thanks to my previous B.A. degree I was able to skip all the Gen Ed's and other filler courses and now I just have to finish up mainly IT courses plus the Capstone and Technical Writing. You can track my progress of courses in my signature. With 181 days left to finish I need to average out 15 days per course which I think is more than doable.

After taking the very first day of the semester off due to previous obligations I started at it today by completing the pre-assessments for MGC1 and BNC1 scoring a 58% and 72% respectively. I have already requested approval to take these assessments and thanks to the well timing arrival of my WGU student success kit I'll actually be able to take them at home. My course mentor has already opened up CUV1 and BOV1 so I'll start studying for these and continue to review week ares for my other 2 courses.

Stay tuned plenty more to come over the next 181 days!

You got yours the first week?!!?! I am now officially jealous!!

(The same way alumni before me were jealous that they did not get a kit at all....)

The most valuable thing on the kit of course, is the very thing I'm using right now.....the liquid motivation cup. This cup after two years STILL holds up quite well after dishwasher treatment. My mug is loved above all others! LOL.

Best of luck in your studies. I hope your thread was as entertaining (for me, but informative for others) as the one from the esteemed gentleman from Arkansas. [Don't mind me...I'm in need of watching some British House of Commons....it is super hilarious if you ever get a glimpse of it.]

Good luck! The most I ever passed in one semester was 35 (barely) and that's because the capstone was 9 credits. I applaud anyone who can get through more

I did 40 in one term, and it dang near killed me. Good luck on the 47, it's certainly ambitious.

Very true! Although I think they downsized the cups now. I thought I was getting an over sized cup like I had seem in other pictures but was disappointed lol

@dragonshiz Good luck! Looks like you have the motivation to get it done!

I'm going to be doing the same thing shortly. I transferred in all but 40 cu's (A.S. degree) so mine should be slightly easier.

I'm on track for my 1 term finish as well. Transferred in 78 CUs and of the 43 remaining CUs I've already knocked out 15, with 3 more on the way by the end of the week as I finish up RIT1. Then it's back into Java for KFT1.

    Best of luck to everyone!

Good luck on your goal, it's definitely achievable with enough work. I've completed 31 in two months, I'm hoping I can somehow finish in one term.

Thanks for the posts everyone and good luck to everyone that is starting WGU at the same time as well. I went ahead and got both exams scheduled Principles of Management on September 12th and Organizational Behavior and Leadership on September 9th. Right now just going over coaching items from the Mangement exam since I didnt do as well in that Pre Assessment. Personally can't wait to get both out of the way as I find the reading material very dry and boring. This would put me 18 days ahead of schedule so I'm excited about that!

Good luck. I plan on starting next month and will want to try a 1 term finish as well, so I'll be watching this thread. How easy is it to get transferable credit from other schools?

Lifehaggar, I'll have to relook over my transcript evaluation again to doublecheck how it was divided out but I do know that my B.A. degree waived all my gen eds, my partially finished A.A.S. waived at least 2 courses and than my CompTIA certs and CIW cert waived at least 9 courses. I transferred in a total of 74 credits.

Thanks dragonshiz. I completed about 2.5 years of a BA and satisfied almost all their gen ed requirements, so hopefully most will be taken care of. If I had completed 2 semesters of Calculus, does anyone know if that would satisfy math requirements?

    dragonshizdragonshiz Member Posts: 78 ■■□□□□□□□□
Lifehaggar, I'm pretty sure the 2 semesters of Calc would satisfy that, I only took 1 semester or Pre Calc during my B.A. and it satisfied the requirement. The only real way is to check with WGU of course.

Just passed BNC1 today, pretty happy to be done with 1 course in 1 week and considering all I did was take the pre-assessment and than assessment that saves me a lot of time. I have MGC1 assessment coming on Wednesday at which point I'll be done with the web cam proctoring. That turned out to be a way bigger headache than I thought it would be lol. More to come, hope to have one of the CIW exams (either site designer or javascript) taken by the end of September!

    You got this!

I submitted my capstone yesterday and am waiting to hear back.

If I pass I will have knocked out 41 credit hours in 5.5 months. I've taken some vacation time as well towards the end when my load lightened.

You've got it and can totally do it.

Woo just passed MGC1, I can put the webcam away icon_smile.gif. In the mean time I have been reading through the CIW Web Design Specialist test material and since I already have my voucher looking to schedule it on Friday 9/21. After reading through the first 8 chapters, which is just under half the material you need to study (mentor told me chapters 1-16 and 30-34 are sufficient) I took the practice test and was able to score a 65% so I'm feeling pretty confident about that one. At this point I'm looking to knock out the remaining certification test courses and just have the 2 programming courses left and the technical writing and capstone starting in December.

So been studying for the CIW Web Site Designer course for the past week and have that scheduled tomorrow at 12:30 pm! The CIW material does a really good job, feeling pretty confident scoring in the 80% range for the practice tests. You really do only have to cover chapters 1-16 and 30-34 which is nice. Will post results tomorrow!

Thanks Ivanjam, dmarciso, the course opened for me on September 1st. I took the pre assessment on the 2nd and than I spent probably 10 hours studying items from the coaching report. I than took the test on Sept. 12.

Woot just got back from Prometric and I passed the CIW Web Site Designer exam! Not as high of score as I would have liked but a pass is a pass. The test seemed to throw a fair amount of oddball questions at me that I hadnt seen in the CIW course material but oh well that's all in the rear view mirrror now anway lol. I'm now 26 days ahead of schedule! Next up is Web Programming, targeting end of September to complete this one 3 for 3 on tests so far!

Thanks for the reply! Going by your other posts was the BNC1 and MGC1 only a pre assessment and a proctored exam? I thought I read somewhere about having to write a few papers for one of those classes.
  • Options
    dragonshizdragonshiz Member Posts: 78 ■■□□□□□□□□
Dmarcisco, you are correct the class is only a pre assessment to gauge what you need to work on and then a proctored exam to pass. You do not have to write any papers for that course.
