Security Lab and practical application

Hello, i'm currently in the information security field and i often find myself lacking certain skills needed to perform my job. Does anyone know of any books or other sources that have practice labs for various security topics?

Application and network pen testing to start. I've looked on Amazon but i like to check here first to see if i can benefit from someones experience.

The thing i really want is a book packed full of labs.

For application pen testing - try the OWASP webgoat project - webgoat - WebGoat is a deliberately insecure J2EE web application designed to teach web application security concepts - Google Project Hosting - as I recall there were lesson plans in there someplace.
