in CCNA & CCENT
[ICND1]
Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection
[ICND2]
Configure and verify Frame Relay on Cisco routers
Troubleshoot WAN implementation issues
The description in ICND1 is pretty ambiguous. "A basic WAN serial connection". What kind of WAN serial connection is basic?

HDLC is the default... I think (99% sure). There wouldn't be a need to configure it as it's the default for the Serial WAN links. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

bud08 Member Posts: 58 ■■□□□□□□□□I took the ICND1 as: know how to config by "encapsulation ppp" and "encapsulation hdlc" (if someone has it on something else) then check with show interface or show ip interface brief on that interface. ICND2 is really knowing how to do Frame Relay and setting that up not just knowing its definition.

HDLC is default for all serial interfaces. -

Illumanati Banned Posts: 211 ■□□□□□□□□□I love this thread as it applies directly to my cisco iv class. all about Frame Relay, PPP and HDLC..basically all layer 2 WAN protocols which is where WAN protocols reside: Layer 2! Are WAN protocols Layer 1 as well?

TehToG Member Posts: 194No. Layer 1 is physical. How do you apply protocols to voltages on a cable or flashes of light down a fiber.
