Looks like its a bad hard drive! Try running chkdsk /r in the recovery console. Prob bad drive though

Its obviously a problem with the OS. If the hard drive were bad it wouldn't even begin to load windows...What is the OS? Can you boot into safe mode & do a restore? Do you have an ASR disk? Have you tried a repair? If you can't figure it out quickly, its sometimes faster to slave teh drive off, get the data & redo the drive real quick.

Good call garv221 - not too far off the mark.

I think the first thing I would do would to be to run chkdsk /r as mobri09 suggested though - either that or a diagnostic program from the drive manufacturer. I have seen it on a few occasions where the bootsector has some bad areas in it and that has caused a failed load.

    What is the OS cutie?

here is what i would do:

1: run a linux live-cd to recover data (if you can)
    2: flash the bios
    3: reformat/reinstall OS

I see it all the time at best buy and every once in a while the good old chkdsk /r brings it back to life. :D
Check the drive with this utility, its called ultimate boot disk and download the basic version, then burn it to an iso. When you boot from the cd, Select the hard drive tools at startup and you will know what to do next.
    Its called Ulitmate boot disk

Maybe your already passed this point, but just trying to help :D
    Good luck my friend
