Is it worth getting the server 2008 R2 cert?

Or should i wait for the windows server 2012 exam to come out?

Yes. I would highly recommend going for MCSA 2008, then taking the upgrade to 2012 later. After that, get an MCSE. Both MCSAs won't expire and have standalone value. The MCSE will expire and you'll have to maintain it, but I would definitely get the MCSA. It will always add value and show experience and wider product knowledge.

Besides, 2008 R2 is going to be the most commonly seen server platform in most enterprises between 2013 and 2016 or so. I think 2003 will maintain dominance until sometime in late 2013. While 2012 offers a lot of improvements, I don't think we'll see it surpass 2003 or 2008 R2 in corporate usage until the next version comes up, presumably 2012 R2 or 2015 (either way, released sometime between Q3 2014 and Q1 2016).

Pretty much the same answer as the windows 7 certs thread, probably even more truthful with R2.

I agree that it's worth it. The '12 exam will be too......
