New to IT/Masters in CIT

Hey everyone. I currently have an Associate's degree in Health Information Management. I am finishing up my Bachelor's in Organizational Leadership and will graduate next fall. I have two-three years of healthcare experience in Health Information Management/Medical Records and Quality/Performance Improvement/Outcomes in Data Abstraction. After I finish my Bachelor's, I would like to get into the IT field and the college I am at has a Master's in Computer Information Technology. When asking about this program, the director mentioned career fields as systems admin, database admin, security admin, network admin, OS admin, web admin, etc. I would love to get into the IT field and feel like this is a good chance with this degree. Basically, I just want to make sure that the return of investment is worth it. With student loans from my Associate's, Bachelor's, and eventually Master's, I hope to eventually make some decent money (15 an hour currently). With this degree, do you think it would be hard to landing a good job? I have read on several IT forums that in IT, experience is necessary. I mean, I won't even start the degree until the beginning of 2014 and won't graduate till 2016 or 2017. I just want to be sure that I am doing the right thing. I have plenty of time to try to gain experience with internships. I work full-time and grad. school will be a struggle to juggle that in the evenings after work, etc. but I want it to be worth it in the end. The other programs I was looking at are Health Informatics (this makes the most sense to go into but I want to have a more broad degree that appeals to any business) and Business Informatics, which is MIS (they said careers are as a Business Analyst - seems CIT has more opportunities). Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Hello and welcome to TE.

Are you asking if having a Masters will land you a good job? Or are you asking if completing your Bachelor's will land you a good job?

I would advise that once you complete your Bachelor's - you may want to try to get a full time job in IT first before you attempt a Masters. I'm sure they are out there, but I've never met anyone that needed a Masters to start their career in IT.

I would suggest that, prior to enrolling in the MS degree, you should try to knock off a few IT certs to see if the field is to your liking or not. I would suggest a combination of A+, Network+ and Security+ or, if you are up to it, the CCNA and MCSA Windows Server 8.
