hey guys, Am I doing something wrong??? The switch I'm working on in packet tracer doesn't understand SHOW INTERFACES STATUS and SHOW INTERFACES DESCRIPTION commands... is it too old?? I'm using packet tracer Version 5.3.3.0019 and working with a 2960 Switch that states the following via "show ver"

PT is an emulator. Not every command is supported.

yes it doesn't support those commands. However if you use the real stuff or use a router in GNS3 then you'll see the output

PT is still one of the best options for studying towards the CCENT/CCNA.
There are other sims out there but don't go there. I've tried a few and none come close to PT.
I'm an Xpert at nothing apart from remembering useless information that nobody else cares about.

Yea I never even knew about the secondary option at the end of setting an ip address until working at my current job. That's why I've recently started using gns3 for routing commands. I wish I didn't sell that switch I bought off of ebay but then I can probably find another one.

I have no idea how to use GNS3 and no clue where to find an IOS plus I like the fact that packet tracers shows you what happens step by step as the PDU travels

That's something I wouldn't be watching. It's not something you're going to have in the real world. You don't want to become dependent on watching those PDUs. You want to develop a good troubleshooting methodology now instead of creating bad habits that you'll have to break.
