Just don't start talking about IT stuff unless you're around other IT people, that mess will kill a buzz real quick. Unless you make sex jokes to hot chics like 'I want to penetrate your firewall', then it's funny. Just kidding, don't do that.

IT Innuendos are fun... although, it depends on how you deliver it. Especially who. If you can't find people to joke around with, probably best to forget IT jokes. Maybe some IT stories? I always find a way to fit in a little IT propoganda to further the "I need tickets."

Funny, here's me trying to avoid IT stuff in socialising with co-workers and they're the ones bringing it up - in a good way. We laugh and joke about it, and it's just another topic to laugh at. I suppose it also helps that a lot of them have seen the IT crowd.

My work occasionally does outings like this, I politely decline and I normally get crap for it. I do drink, I just don't feel comfortable drinking around co-workers. I've gone bowling, we've done paintball, had various lunches etc. I'm just not down for drinking around them, or seeing them drink. Call me crazy.

I'm in the same boat. I just started a new job, so I dont know how they are, but at my old job, all the events outside of work were normally at bars. I have no qualms with drinking, quite frankly, I wish I had a beer right now.... but I never understood drinking with coworkers.

Have to agree with you as far as the IT stories. People love asking "who puts in the most tickets?" or "am I the worst person to deal with?" I just tell them if you put in a ticket I'm happy and maybe come over to just say hi every once in a awhile. It offends us when you walk over and only ask how we're doing when you want something. LOL

Yeah I have no issue with hanging out and doing non-drinking related stuff. We've got another paintball outing in a few weeks which i'm looking forward to. I'm just not a bar person, despite the fact I realize it's for socializing, I just don't care for the atmosphere. As for drinking with co-workers, you never know when you can do something horribly stupid and it will change your relationship with those co-workers.
