2nd interview for new IT position. what should i do ?

Hey guys,

I got a phone screen for a helpdesk associate position with what sounds like a great company.. It's 7 grand more than what im making now and im ready to leave my current position as a support specialist because my new supervisor is a nitpicking, micromanaging prick. I was even offered a promotion after all the certs i got this year or a raise they just replaced my supervisor with this other guy. So my only dilemna is after 7 years of IT i hate to go into another entry level/helpdesk role. Im frankly tired of the tedious repetive tickets such as "forgotten passwords" " can you put my email on my new smartphone again ".

What do you guys think?

Well, what are the duties of the job you are considering as to what you have now?

You say you were offered a promotion, did you take it? And why after 7 years of IT experience are you looking for an entry level position? You should be able to get a better than entry level position after that much experience. You have an MCP, isn't that an old cert? Have you thought about updating your certification to a newer cert.

Seems to me like you will be doing the same tideous stuff you hate for more money, is that worth it to you? In my opinion, with 7 years experience you should aim higher.

I wouldn't suggest a lateral move at this point in your career. Work on your degree/certifications for a few more months then aim for something higher. Changing jobs now will likely stick you doing the same level of support for another year+ when you could have otherwise moved up.

I wasn't offered a promotion and my current supervisor is a prick. The new company says there's opportunity to move up and it's a better company while there's no opportunity for growth where im at. and after this IT meeting today i wanted to slide my supervisor underneath the desk mike tyson style..

I'd jump ship if I were you. You started looking for other opportunities for a reason. Make sure that after the second interview, you ASK FOR THE JOB! "When may I start"...."May I have the job"... Plain and simple. You'd be surprised at how many people don't get a job simply because they weren't brave enough to ask for it. Good Luck, Whizkid.
