Starting on the 70-640

At work I am required to get training related to my field and figured why not work on my mcsa 2008 and why not do the 70-640 as the starter.

As of right now I have the cbt nuggets videos. So now I am debating a class or trancender and the books.

The class would be at new horizons and im debating 6425 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Domain Services Or get the Trancender 70-640, 70-642, 70-646 kit. Work will pay for one or the other.

Any input on things that help?

If the class is boot camp style with guaranteed pass I'd go with that. Currently using ms press, measure up and labbing - doing this for work as well

I have decided to take this test as well. I've been out of the game for a long time. It has been over a year since my last exam so hopefully I'm not too rusty.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy the tests separate or if I should buy the voucher pack. Work will pay either way but they may appreciate saving 68 dollars.

The class goes through the material very quickly. When you look at the amount of information you have to learn and the time in class, you will see that it's not like standard college classes where they spend time in each class explaining the material. For instance, there is no way to properly teach the extra roles (RMS, FS, and CS) in two classes for most people without any experience in those roles. However, that being said, the New Horizon classes provide really good labs and the instructor is available to answer questions and help clear up issues you might be having problems with. I do not believe that the class is enough by itself to pass the exam, so it is still up to you to do your own self-study; new Horizon's just provides the support resources.

The books that New Horizon's use are almost identical to the Microsoft Self-Paced Training Kit for 2008 R2 which is a really good book for the exam. The CBT Nuggets videos are the next thing I highly recommend. The books and classes teach you the material, and the CBT Nuggets show you examples of the technologies and very detailed step-by-step instruction on how to perform the tasks required for the exam.

I also suggest heavy use of Technet and make sure you do labs over and over. If you do not have access to a lab or cannot make your own, then I suggest you do take the classes because the labs are what will help you pass the exam.

For me I used Measure Up and Transcender for practice tests to see where I was. Both of them covered the same amount of information, but the Transcender exams were much more difficult. The thing I like about that is that if you started scoring in the 90's with Transcender, then you are ready to move on to the real exam.

Finally I suggest using this forum. People here helped me get through a few issues I was struggling with. Post questions here and people will help if they can.

Don't take the 640 for granted. It is a very difficult exam because of the large amount of information you have to learn. But it is very doable and a good one to start with.

Hello All, I also started to prepare for 70-640 and got most of the material which most of the guys are telling here. i ve made the schedule to do preparation chapter wise from (Microsoft.Press.MCTS.Self-Paced.Training.Kit.Exam.70-640.2nd.Edition.Jun.2011 + Video Training from different sites + CBT Nuggets by TrainSignal + Technet Library + Notes by Senior Member Lunchbocks + Sybex MCTS Win Server 2008 R2 Complete Study Guide + Syngress Elsevier MS Windows Server 2008 R2 Administrators Reference. All these material i found on net for free but unable to find transcenders. If any can tell me where i can get that, i'll also get it.

For Lab i ve 2 Systems by which i'll perform my lab, dont know n dont want to make myself indulge in new thing like vmware or else..
