I've passed every cert exam I've taken too, and by a good margin. Despite that, I still fear failing just enough to keep me motivated to continue studying.

EDIT: Oh, oh, oh, I just remembered that I took and failed the betas of the two MCSD Visual Basic exams back in 1998. I didn't study for them and wasn't actually trying to pass. I was writing a book on the MCSD VB exams and I only wanted to see what the topics and format of questions were. I never did finish the book, or go back and actually get the MCSD cert.

I had a perfect record for a while....and then it happened. I hope those of you that have perfect records continue. As many tests as I have taken, it was just a matter of time. Here is a list of my fails:

    CCNA...long ago
Server Enterprise (NT 4.0)...This was the pain from the MCSE NT 4 track
Cisco IDS ...I am not sure what happened on this one..I thought I had nailed it.
Avaya Messaging.....hmmm...just trying it out.. icon_wink.gif

But...in the past 2 weeks, I have added 3 more to the "WIN" column:

    Juniper JNCIA-M
    Juniper JNCIA-FWV
    Juniper JNCIS-M
    Kenny

A+, Network+, Linux+, Security+, MCSE+I, MCSE:Security, MCDBA, CCNP, CCDP, CCSP, CCVP, CCIE Written (R/S, Voice),INFOSEC, JNCIA (M and FWV), JNCIS (M and FWV), ENA, C|EH, ACA, ACS, ACE, CTP, CISSP, SSCP, MCIWD, CIWSA

    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

So far, I've only failed two tests. I tanked the 70-291 because I got overconfident, and went in unprepared. (Went back and aced it.) And I failed one other. . . of all things, the software exam for A+. Ironically, I was working as an A+ Technician. Luckily, the company was paying for it, so I didn't have to eat the cost of the exam. So, the tally so far:
      A+ Core: Passed
A+ Software: Failed, Passed (Must've been a full moon, or something.)
Security+ Passed (This one, I almost over-studied. Only one question wrong.)
      70-290: Passed
70-291: Failed, Passed (Yeah, it was a learning experience.)
      70-270: Passed

What's next? Probably Linux+ and/or LPIC-1 and 2, then a little bit of CCNA type stuffs, and on to finish up the MCSE: Security before I get booted down the path to CCNP. Currently, I work at a place where they not only encourage studying, but are willing to have you work (read "assist") in an area or on projects where you can get the most out of your new-found skills. So, for example, if I spend two hours studying Linux commands, the rest of the day is spent helping to set up a Red Hat server.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm on a vacation when I sit in the training room and study the TestOut videos, considering some of the work I end up doing tends to really put me through my paces. If I claim to know something, I'd better damn-well know it, because my bosses will expect me to be able to do the work. Suffice it to say, I don't plan on failing any tests in the near future.

Wow, an old thread resurrected... Interesting topic though.

Network Essentials - (old MS exam) - passed
NT4 Server - failed, passed (ended up with strep throat the day before the exam and didn't sleep. Missed it by 1 question, passed 4 days later)
    W2k Pro - passed
    W2K Server - passed
CCNA - failed, failed, passed (messed up 3 SIMS both times before I realized my mistake)
    Sec+ - passed
    Net+ - passed
    70-218 - passed
All things are possible, only believe.

Too many, too long to count vs 2
Of the two (which were CCNA and Sec+) I subsequently passed.

Then again, lets see. I think my original CNE required 7 exams
Then I passed upgrade to NW 4, then 5, then 6. Took and passed beta of GW 5.5. So that's 11 right there.
    Then comptia: A+ and net+, then the 2nd pass of Sec+, that's 3 more.
    MS: 210, Admin of Exch 2000, 216?, 218, 292, 293, 294, 298 that's 8
Then the 2nd passed attempt at CCNA.

Total: 23 passed with only 2 fails. Whew!
2 tests for SCNP planned within the month. I should be able to pass these.

  • tuscanituscani Member Posts: 121
I am 8 for 11. Not too bad.

I failed my CCNA once back in 2003. I then failed my MCSA 2003 upgrade exam twice before just getting the score needed to pass on my third try.

That 70-292 really kicked my ass! :)

I'm 3-2, took Novell CNA in Netware 6 twice, passed both parts of A+ first try and failed the MCP in Win98 (who would have thought the 98 test was supposedly the hardest one, harder than the NT test from what I found out after failing it, lol).
