Based on another thread I thought I share this as I was asked this a few times now.
Found some affordable ram for the Microserver (even works in N36L) which actually works - 16GB / 2x8GB UDIMMS

jibbajabba Member Posts: 4,317 ■■■■■■■■□□Mmmm... intersting ... my N36L works perfectly with the RAM, installed Centos, Windows and then ESX and it saw 16GB all the time when rebooting. Now on the N40L I see issues people reported over the internet - that only 5 or less in 10 reboots the 16GB are reported correctly. I did however find out that the issues only showed up since the latest bios upgrade (which is weird as the N36L has the same MB / bios) so I am downgrading now and see how it goes.
I know there IS a combination which works : here
They sell it with 16GB and with warranty but that is ECC ram - as a result it costs three times as much ..
I shall report back after the bios upgrade - currently trying that via IPMI (what could possibly go wrong).My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com
