WGU Questions

Hi all,
Been planning on attending wgu for a while now thanks to all of the success stories from te members. Basically i am waiting on my transfer eval and a resume eval(due to the fact that i did not finish my associates) to hear back if i get to start on Jan 1. So myquestions are
1. Will i get to choose which classes to take, say i want to leave gen ed for last etc??
2. I want to start out with CCNA MCITP that way i can use them sooner, good choice or??

Btw i tried using the wgu search in the stickie and it was broken.

1. You can generally choose your classes. Every mentor is different on this. Once I proved myself to my mentor, she pretty much lets me take what classes I want. If you are on FA and may have trouble with certain classes, it might be nice to save some "easy" classes to keep up your satisfactory academic progress (SAP)
I would add the harder classes first, so you have time to complete them.

2. It's good to have a mix of classes. Example: I did the Organization behavior and leadership, principles of management, leadership concepts and applications, and project management in a row. BORING.

santaowns - if you don't get ACG1 (Foundations of College Mathematics) and BBC1 (Communications Foundations) transferred in, they may want you to do these courses first to gauge your competence. After that, you should be able to choose your courses once you have a decent mentor.

I'm sorry but what is the CCNA MCITP?? I'm in the processing of applying so i'm not familiar with this

Are the mentors chosen for you or can we pick one and if so, any recommendations?

CCNA is Cisco Certified Network Associate. MCITP is Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional, which has been superseded by Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE).

EDIT: Also, mentors are generally chosen for you. Should the one chosen for you not work out, you can put in a request for a different mentor later on. I recommend this only if you have a legitimate gripe that cannot be resolved between you and your chosen mentor.

I just started the BSIT-Sec on August 1st. I wanted to get the CCNA up front like you, but my mentor didn't think it was such a great idea. He pretty much picked my classes and didn't really give me any options.

I have finished 3 classes so far in my first month and could possibly finish up the term (12cu) in the first month. Obviously I plan on accelerating my degree. Now he lets me add classes and pick whatever I want.

I agree with what others have said that you should look to balance out your terms equally with hard and easy classes.
