Questing about Transfering Certs to WGU.

Does anyone know if WGU accepts 98-349 cert from Microsoft if I take it on my own? I see a list of all the certs they accept on their site but they didn't mention anything about these certs. I'm planning on finishing these certs on my own before starting WGU so I can finish quicker and I'd like to take for example (DFV1)98-363 (DHV1)98-349 (DIV1) 98-365 and a few more certs ahead of time. I'm planning on getting my degree in BS IT. I already have A+ Net+ and a few more.

They would take it I believe as I got credit for that class having gotten my 70-680 prior to wgu.

Transferable IT Certifications is the listing of everything they take in "Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA): Windows OS Fundamentals" is listed which is the 98-349 exam.

Just keep in mind, they give you the voucher and materials to take those exams. But as long as you take the exam before they do their transfer evaluation, you're fine.

You could also study for them on your own and then blast through them once you are enrolled and that would save you the cost of the tests, but it's all about what would work best for you.

The answer is definitely YES for the generic WGU BS-IT. The Net+ will take care of both CRV1 and CWV1, so you don't have to do 98-366. If you have Sec+, that will cover both CTV1 and DEV1 so you don't have to do 98-367. If you are going to do the CIW exams, do both 1D0-510 and 1D0-520 as the first covers WFV1 and the second gives you credit for both CUV1 and DFV1, which means you won't have to do 98-363. That will only leave 98-361, 98-364 and 98-365 unless you have an equivalent or better certification in the areas they cover.

This is some great information!!! Thank you so much. I didn't know this! You said that leaves 98-361, 98-364, 98-365. What about 98-349(Windows OS Fundamentals), 98-365(Windows Server Admin Fundamentals), 1D0-635(Web Programming), 1D0-541(Database I). Any combinations on these?

I'd like to finish in a few semesters possible and I know these small certs I can just knock out of the way.

So right now i have A+ / Security + and I am studying for my CCNA. i should get my CCNA prior to them doing the transfer evaluation (pretty much before I start school?)

WGU certification transfers are weird. When I transferred in, I had my A+, Security+, Linux+, Network+ and MCSE: Security. Somehow that translated into me not having to take the CCNA Security exam or the 70-680 (I heard I dodged a bullet with that last one). I think it's sometimes a wildcard depending on the evaluator and you can always contest it if you feel something is off.

I am actually looking forward to taking the CCNA Security exam, but them translating those certifications into satisfying the CCNA security and the 70-680 does sound odd.. I am in the military and can take the certifications for free. I just need to purchase my own study guides. So to save time and tuition I am trying to knock out the certs that I can before I enroll.

Go for it. I wish I had taken the CCNA: Security while at WGU. I ended up taking it after graduation and I could have saved the $250 exam fee

Yeah, going to see about knocking out CCNA and CCNA security before I enroll. we will see how that turns out..

Try the Todd Lammle or Ciscopress CCNA books. You should be able to get through the CCNA exam with sims but if you want to get through the CCNA Security exam, I'd recommend getting a router with CCP and ASA 5505. Good luck!

the good thing is i have plenty of routers at my job that i can play with. i do want to get one for my own home lab. I have reloaded more IOS's than i care to ever want to think about. I have a pretty firm grasp of the router and how to make it do what i need it to. I just need the cert to follow it up

My previous response was to your question on exam 98-349 - you will have to do it unless you have a pass in a higher MS exam such as the 70-680. I also did mention that you will have to do 98-365. About 1D0-635 and 1D0-541, I just don't know - I haven't yet done those exams.

You aren't kidding - I just got my transcript evaluations done and IT Fundamentals 2&3 are covered by my MCSA, but I have to take IT Fundamentals 1! I am not making a stink about it as I only have 30 CUs to complete and having a blow-off test like that will help me as I transition back to being a student, but there is clearly something a little wacky here.

Look at https://kb.wgu.edu/utility/getfile.aspx?rid=1021 for a list of what cert counts toward what class. Compare that with the PDF for the degree you are looking to complete and you can do your own unofficial transcript evaluation and see what certs you may want to pursue. Keep in mind things may change by the time you enroll, but this should serve as a good guideline.

Does it matter how fast I get the certs? for example if I get one today and Get another in a few days, Would it be a big deal for these small certs? Would WGU care? I know the material for some of the certs.

Also Does anyone, While you're enrolled and for example you pick A+ classes and you decide to take the exam within the first week, is that possible? And since A+ has 2 classes do you get credits for both classes if you pass and get the A+ cert?

How fast can you theoretically finish a degree at WGU if you are able to do most of the certs yourself before enrolling ?
Is it possible to get a degree in 1 semester if you have enough certifications beforehand ?

There are plenty of 1 term people floating around here, yes it's possible depending on the number you need and the degree your going for.

I haven't started yet (11 days and counting), but I believe you will have to deal with your academic mentor and convince them that you are prepared to take the tests. From what I have read that may be easier with some mentors than others, but you can always study for the next class. I imagine that after your mentor gets to know you and that it will be easier to get their OK.

I sure hope so; that's my plan! I don't know if they have a minimum number of CUs that must be completed at WGU to earn a degree; most traditional schools have a minimum number of credits that must be earned while in residence so this wouldn't surprise me. I do know that if you want a second Bachelor's from WGU you need a minimum of 30 CUs.

My enrollment counselor told me about it since one of my transcripts was lost in the mail and I kept pestering him to let it slide and evaluate what had arrived so I could decide if I want the Security or Network Design & Management program.

The Security program interests me more, but I am really focusing on getting my BS as quickly as possible so I have that working to my advantage when I start job hunting in the spring.

You need to complete 12 CUs each term for undergrad studies and 8 for graduate studies.

You can do the certs as fast as you can clear them with your student mentor, get a voucher and schedule them with Prometric or Pearson VUE.

First week, second week... depends on you, your mentor and Prometric/VUE. A+ cert counts for 2 classes.

If money isn't an issue (for some, it isn't as much), then take as many of the cert exams as you can prior to WGU. They will transfer and it saves time with some "mentor" that might not have a clue. Yet, it's all up to the individual.

Their certification transfer policies are weird! Is there anything that WGU accepts in lieu of the CIW Web Foundation Associate exam? Really, is there? The literature they offer is contradicting in places. Just wondered. I agree, too, it might depend upon the evaluator.
