Got an Interview Tomorrow ... a little nervous

So I just got a call from an employer, asked me questions regarding AD, VOIP Phones, And Linux. The job descriptions says that that is what they were looking for but Willing to train a potential candidate. My Resume doesn't show anything regarding any of that. I was able to build confidence on the employer on me and now I have a face to face interview tomorrow at 1pm. Anyone have anything tips on what kind of question I could be asked? Anything I should freshen up on that is really common kind of questions that are asked? They know im not going to know everything ive taked courses on AD and have messed with voip and linux before but in no way am I close to say that im a pro at it. Ive been honest and let them know that. Just trying to get some tips on how to handle the interview tomorrow with the acknowledgment that I will be more learning on the job. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I don't have any tips. It's good to be honest and transparent, just don't under-sell yourself. You may be asked questions to gauge your ability to learn and how you deal with new challenges. Having some good analogies of past experiences could be helpful.

No on AD, and just basic fundamentals of VoIP (220-702 S. 3.2)

And like it has been said before.. Just tell them you are interested (if you are) in mastering the technologies, and be transparent.

Just came back from the interview. Even though I feel like I most likely wont get the job, The interview went well. Was able to answer every question in full and asked them analytical questions as well. It was a great conversation and a great experience, unfortunately I don't think I had the experience that they were looking for. I wont blame them if they don't hire me. I'm just keeping my head up high and just keep looking. Thanks everyone for input!

Don't be so sure. I've only had one interview go well and not end in an offer, and it was because they weren't paying what I wanted. If you're answering the questions well that is usually bigger than any other qualifying factor. The point of the interview is to see if you're able to do the job. Unless they interviewed you without looking at your resume, you are probably in good shape.

Yup i went on one today and no were on my resume did i claim juniper experience; but thats what they want.
My great news from the interview. she said that she will let me know next week, if they want me.

well I just had 3 hours of great interview training with a big time corporation for free.

Yeah just like PT said, I had an interview that I thought I completely bombed - they asked me 10 technical questions and I answered only 2. I had a mumbo-jumbo answer for another 2 but that was it. I was pretty enthusiastic the whole time and showed them I was eager to learn it all. But I thought no chance in hell I'd get the job. Guess what, I was offered the job! But they tried to lowball me and offered me a pittance as salary, something like $35,000 a year. NO WAY, I told them. They came back with $35,250 a year. WTF I told them, do you think I'm a beggar or something? Glad I turned it down, I was offered another position that paid $60k - gladly took that offer.

Keep pluggin away man, you'll land something soon enough. You may want to start working towards a CCENT/CCNA/MCTS or something to show your enthusiasm about learning a technology.

Thanks for giving me hope guys. I have the MCTS 70-680 scheduled for mid December, and then If I get this Job will work on MCSA 2008 or if not then its CCNA for me. They know that I'm not stopping my education and I'm continuing to learn everyday. Who knows, maybe in a couple of days you will see a post from seeing that I got the job =D lol, we'll see.... Thanks again guys!

For an interview it is best to say be calm and do not get panic.Have enough information about your job.Try to get more information than you currently have now about your subjects.Be confident with what you know and be your self.And last but most not the least that do not let down yourself.Best of luck for your interview.

I recently had an interview were I messed up so bad I wanted to call back and apologies for wasting their time but I still got a job offer from them. They asked me what a vLAN is and I said it was a virtual LAN that runs on a PC and emulates a switch but I could see their faces that I was wrong the only part I got right was that it was virtual. Second question was what was NAT - Network Address Translation but I dont know what made me think it relies on IP tables so thats where my answer was leaning to and again their facial expression was wrong. They did ask me a few questions which I did get right and I did admit that networking is not my strong point but I will be looking at doing CCNA in the future and the job was for a junior NOC position and I only have experience in Desktop Support. So some times you do not always have to get the answers right to get a job

When you setup NAT on Linux then this is exactly what you need - IPTables

So lets say I got one question wrong about the vLAN but I carried on and was positive that NAT relies on IP tables and I just said to myself maybe they want to test how confident I am when someone is trying to knock you off track so that why I remained confident and explained further. It was the only interview that I did not use the word I dont know and tried to answer everything but the others interviews that I got offered a job soon after the interview I had responded with I have seen it being done at work but to say I have worked with it will be a lie eg. SQL stored procedures or Vmware (I only supported what was already setup etc).

I recently saw a job like this in the Chicago-land area on Craigslist. 8AM-8PM then 8PM-8AM. I'm not a networking guy, but those are some brutal hours.

Indeed. You are never going to know everything asked in an interview. Many places want to know that you do have knowledge, that you can learn, and that you will fit in with the culture of the organization.

I had an interview like that, but the kicker was that I had the good conversation with the 1st person that interviewed me. The 2nd person not so much. The 1st person actually told me to give her a call at the top of the year if I didn't get the position, which I didn't, for a position in her department.
