Dear members, I was wondering if someone could be so kind as to explain loop guard, try as I may to research this feature I cant seem to grasp it. For some reason I keep thinking that loop guard will effectively block a backup path should for some reason the primary path fail.

Don't know if those videos helped you, but Loopguard is just like UDLD but instead uses STP BPDU's as keepalive. Basically, if you have a redundant (physical) switching path, then STP will have a forwarding port and a blocking port. With loopguard, if the blocked port stops receiving BPDUs then the port will be placed into loop-inconsistent state.
