Thank you. 642 is next on the list - planning on taking this in Feb next year. Would like to finish the MCITP:SA/MCSA:WS2008 by May (fingers crossed).

My score was 875 which I wasn't expecting (thought it would be lower). Was really strong on the old school AD stuff, not quite so hot on the newer stuff.

I was thinking about sitting this for fun, just straight up sit it. What "new" things got you?

middle of the night because of a network problem and had to figure out the
traffic flows in your network while you were half asleep, could you do it?

Good effort, Budzy. I've failed it twice this year, so I know how tough it is; especially the RMS/FS stuff. Good luck with 70-642.

Thanks guys and good luck, make sure you do lots of labbing as that really helped me... I had 7 or 8 VMs all running server 2008 R2.

Having only completed the 2003 MCSE last year helped too.

Maily the questions on RMS and FS got me to be honest, no real world experience of them (hence my knowledge was textbook and lab only here).

I've got a little experience. hehe

Just never sat any MS tests and it's not necessary I ever be certified but I have seriously thought about sitting it for fun just to see how it goes. I don't know much about MS certs, I just remember MCSE and MCSA...all the MCITP etc is new to me and figured they were Desktop certs or something, guess I was wrong as they appear to be Expert level.

Yeah, AD FS is a variant on your basic trusts. I never used RMA in my 2008 environment..it might be fun to give it a shot. Hmmm!

Any reading suggestions? I am getting ready to study for the 640 and have no idea what books might cover the R2 material.

I recommend Microsoft's Self Paced Training Kit for Server 2008 R2. While no book alone will prepare you for this exam, this one does the best job at laying down a solid foundation in my opinion. I also heavily recommend using Technet to supplement this book.

    Good luck!

My main reference book was the Sybex MCTS book, i wouldn't say its the best....however, it was free to me though (and collecting dust in the office) after someone else completed the exam way back before the release of R2. The MS self paced book is a pretty heavy read, one of my co-workers bought it and I did flick through it. I made very good use of the sample CD test questions from this publication.

    Good luck.
