How to Speed up System Performance

The problem with my notebook is that it couldnt perform as fast as it uses to be when i first purchased it.It takes a very long time to open a file or load a programme! Well, any advise on this problem..tried Dr. Salman Windows Power Tool Programme but still the same>Need help on this!!!

What are the specs?

OS (+ service pack) & RAM most importantly.

Run some good adware/spyware/virus programs.
Delete all programs that you don't need anymore.
Delete temp files, temp internet files, cookies and recent files.
Do a scan disk and defrag.

Yeah, do that. You should try to rememember to do this stuff at least once a month.

Hemm,currently using XP Home+ Service Pack with 512 Mb RAM,eeiks...
any good adware,spyware or virus programs that you guys recommend?

Ok - a few things.
First up you have enough RAM for it to run 1/2 way decently. I would set folder views to show hidden files and folders and then empty the Temp and Temp Internet folders in your profile. Then go to Windows and empty the Prefetch and Temp folders.
Now download and run Microsoft Antispyware.
Next run scandisk and defrag.

That should make things work a bit cleaner. You can also limit the disk space being used by System Restore - that helps.
You should also change to Classic Start Menu - that changes a few things.

Download RegSurpreme, Also run Windoctor from system works. Do a disk cleanup. That should help out a little.

Not as fast as it used to be? Spyware sweep is probly needed in your system. Go to www.webroot.com and download their 30 day trial and clean the system out. I did that with mine and foudn 1100 files on the family PC. Spybot wasnt able to find anything.
