MY main goal is to continue to build on my linux and unix experience and go for the RHCSA. I may go for the RHCE as well but I think $800 in one year is a little much so I may hold off and give myself more study time.

Well I didn't real do too much for 2012... Took my QoS exam finishing, CCIP, did my ARCH exam for CCDP, passed my FIREWALL exam yesterday, so 2012 only say me passing 3 tests and getting 2 certificates. Although I did get a lot of CCIE study time in.

For 2013... I won't throw too much in

but I want to do the following:

    1. CCNP: Security - 3 more exams to go.
    2. CCIE: R/S Written maybe a lab attempt by end of year.

I've got a couple Nexus 5k/2k coming for a couple datacenters so I'll have to learn Nexus, and we'll see what else gets thrown at me.

In 2012 I only managed to study for two certificates, Sec+ and Redhat
SELinux and I'd like to get at least the same number in 2013.

I hope to get the EMCISA, mostly because it looks interesting, in Q1.
Since I'm self-taught when it comes to networking I think doing the
CCENT would help round out my skills and let me see if further Cisco
    study is for me.

In the second half of the year (once I've had a chance to save some more
cash ;)) I'll probably try another Redhat Certification of expertise to
keep progressing in my main area. Anything beyond those three would be
    an added bonus.

I haven't yet achieved any certification, though I did manage to get a new job (amongst many other great things that happened this year). I foresee very limited study time due to the nature of the job and my (currently sleeping) 10 week old son, however..

    Primary Goals:
    CCNA
    MCSA: 2008

    Extended Goals:
    Security+

    On the shortlist:
    VCP5
    Linux+
    MCSA: 2012
    MCSE: Private Cloud
    CCNA: Voice
    CCNA: Security

If I manage my primary goals I'll be very happy, anything on top is a huge bonus!

    My goals for 2013 are:

    1. Comptia Security+
    2. CCENT
    3. CCNA
    4. CISSP

Been studying CCNA on and off this year, hoping to get my CCNA in 2013 and next certification will depend upon where my job leads me to, i think IT has become very broad, very difficult for me to choose a particular area, Cisco or Ms certifications knowledge are almost prerequisites.
    Goals for 2013-
    1) Learn Python (reading Python for absolute beginners)
    2) Learn basic electronics and telecommunication
    3) Learn Powershell
    4) Get a Sys/network admin Job and learn as much as i can
    5) Complete all the above goals!

I'm going to set the bar lower for myself this year because I never find the time to do even half of what I say I will do.

I need to update my Microsoft certs to Server 2008. This is probably priority 1.
For something different, I want go get RHCSA
If I have time, and if I am still at my current job, I will do NetApp NCDA
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
  • petedudepetedude Member Posts: 1,510
Probably some programming-related and DBMS certs here for 2013. 2014, maybe Red Hat.
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

I'm about to move into the final 10 months of a 3 year secondment, been a very interesting 26 months and need to grasp as much in the time remaining to me, in particular looking to focus on Exchange, SAN, SCCM and ePO before heading back to my mainstream employer.

Cert wise, complete 70-646 by the end of Feb to finish MCSA 2008, EMCISA (Apr), Net+ and Sec+ later in the year. With 3 years solid IT experience and some decent certs to back it up, maybe it'll be time to look for a new job.

    Complete SANS Cyber Guardian baseline.

    I am in 504 now via On-Demand. Test on 28 Feb 13.
SEC 560 April, FOR 508 in Aug, & SEC 503 in Nov.

Maybe ISSAP or something else if I get bored with SANS.

    Rough plans at this point:

I want to get VCAP-DCA, and hopefully DCD done this year. I'm going to do some sort of storage cert in between them.

I *may* up my Windows certs to 2012, and possibly add MCSE Private Cloud, if my employer wants it.

Then I've got my CCNA being up for renewal in January 2014. I'm thinking about going CCDA instead. At this point, I don't touch network gear, but I do get involved in design decisions with virtual infrastructures.

In honor of New Year's I'm going to revise my goals and aim higher... I might not make even half of these Certs but we'll see how it goes. (especially since I only got 2 certs last, but I figure it's aiming high that got me where I am today!, and w/e I can get work to pay for icon_smile.gif )

    1. Finish CCNP: Security 3 more exams
    2. At least pass my IE: Written
    3. CWNA - Now that I'm working with Wireless again, should have taken this a year ago.
    4. Maybe CCNP: Wireless.
    5. WireShark Certified Network Analyst would be nice, been using wireshark and TCPDump for a few years now.
    6. SolarWinds Certified Professional, why not been working with SolarWinds for over 5 years now. I hear it's not that difficult.
    7. Maybe a Lab attempt for IE: R/S..
    8. Depending how involved my Nexus deployments go maybe CCNA/NP: Data Center
