what to tell family whe you're not getting the job you applied for??

What to tell mom and dad because they ask and yes they do getting worried about it but
it stresses me more than trying to figure out each time what to say, why i haven't been contacted after applying for a job.
I say that perhaps there were lots of of candidates for that particuliar position and HR already got the one they needed ...

When it comes to applying for jobs it is all about getting your CV right and having the relevant experience for the role you are applying for explained on the CV. So what you might want to say to your parents is perhaps I need to carry on adjusting my CV to one that stands out or suits in the jobs applications or I have not acquired enough experience to compete in the industry but it is all about trying till you get there.

When looking for jobs I always apply for more than I need plus I do not get a 100% call back or contact, I can say I have a 40% success rate which many in the industry will tell you is very very good but then again it depends on location because I am living in the Silicon Valley of the UK so I send out 100's of application plus I have experience in a variety of things. You should know even after meeting all the requirements our CV's are stacked up with 1000's others so whether mine gets a chance to get noticed is still a gamble.

The truth shall set you free. Just give it to them at face value. Usually you'll have ZERO idea on why they passed on you. HR will most likely give you a generic answer on why they didnt choose you which may or may not be true. Anything from the existence of more qualified candidates to the interviewer not liking your tie or watch could be a possibility.

I love my parents, but I'm not about to give them a report every time I don't get a job.

Just tell the truth. While you can certainly influence your cause it's still a bit of a crap shoot. Keep trying and eventually you'll have some good news for the folks!

Tell them the truth and move on. Rejection is a normal part of a job search and most people will understand this unless you've really sold them on the idea that the job was yours.

That happens at my job all the time. They have to go through the motions, but they generally already have a person in mind.

As far as your parents, just tell them you didn't get it.

LOL! That's a dumb reason not to hire someone...

Don't sweat it too much man. At least you seem to be getting interviews. When I was job hunting, all I got was crickets... No answer to my application. It all worked out though because I am happy where I am now.

I was just like CodeBlox, no one even interviewed me. The first one I went for I got. As for the lack of being offered a position, tell them that it didn't work out however you want. I am sure they only ask cause they care so the end result shouldn't much matter as long as it is legitimate. Tell them you didn't meet the qualifications for the position but it was a good opportunity to hone your interview skills. That is how I look at every interview, regardless of a job offer.

Just tell them the truth, everyone knows its tough out there. Plus, it makes it all that much sweeter when you do get the job and they know how hard you worked to get it.

First and foremost, be honest. Let them know your struggles and use them as a resource if appropriate. When I turned 18, I had no idea how to write a proper resume. I told my mom about it and she wrote my first resume for me. The content of the resume changed throughout the years but I kept the general format up until last year and it really worked for me. I cant' imagine any parents being angry or disappointed with you as long as you're trying.

I don't know where you live but perhaps you could relocate to a city that has more demand for IT professionals. Have you considered that yet?

You need to make them understand that time has changed, there is a huge competition and highly qualified people are still unemployed, back in the day it was easy than now to get good jobs, the most important thing is that you should not freak out, it is very depressing to be without a job and your family counting on you, try to get a job where you have opportunity to grow even if you have to take a pay cut ,though closed ones might consider it as a bad decision tell them that it would take time but future will be rewarding,dont sit idle at home and try to do consulting works,contractual work, may be set a website,blogs related to the type of work you want.There always be people asking why you are not getting jobs,try not to get those words to your heart,try,try and try!!and dont give up,try to find out why you are not getting calls ,work on your resume and may be post it here for review.
