Cisco says copy run start isn't a must

Below is a post I saw on the CCNA Prep Center discussion forums....

Hi. The router simulation assessment items are very "high fidelity" representations of the work environment present for the tasks assigned in the certification exam. That is, for the requirements of the test item, the router IOS should offer every command and support every procedure that is reasonably required to accomplish the task. So in answer to your question, the "no" form of a configuration command is supported as a way of undoing a configuration.

As to saving your configuration before leaving a test item, it is not necessary to save a configuration before moving to the next test item. If it were, we'd be certain to reinforce that fact in the test item directions, simulation software, and sample items. We don't want you to waste your hard earned points!

Still, saving the configuration is essential and even though you're not really disconnecting from the router (instead moving to the next question) it still feels like leaving configuration changes unsaved, which is not good practice imho.

I did miss that part about the saving, but that you did mention it, you said:

Did you mean "didn't" because the piece from cisco says you "don't" have to save? And you obviously wouldn't get a question marked wrong for saving the config.

I know it's good --very good-- practice to save config when you're finished with configurations... but you know when you're on that exam...you might just be so overwhelmed by a question and you "might" --just "might"-- forget to save your config.... so does it all go down the drain in such case, or?

No I did mean 'did', to point out the obvious I guess. I saved the config on 3 or 4 sims and passed the exam, so there's no chance that saving the config would get a question marked wrong. Something that wasn't so obvious at first when Cisco introduced the sims. But you are right, it shouldn't all go down the drain 'just' because the config wasn't saved. Unless the router in the sim is rebooted when moving to the next question.

It's just that it feels wrong. The sims usually present you with a problem, which you need to solve, but you don't need to save it. I guess that's ok because it's a simulation, but it's obviously a bad thing in a real-world scenario that you solve a problem and 'move on' without saving the config. Wouldn't it be better if Cisco would drill "save the config" "save the config" "save the config"?
