online application kicks me out without experience

Just tried to apply to a job online. The first page asks if you have A+, Net+ and 3-5 years experience. My answers: yes, yes, no. Next page "sorry you don't have the qualifications...", and get kicked out.

This is for a network technician job at a hospital. I have applied in the past several times at this hospital for a network technician job, this is the first time they have done this. There must be a lot of people around with the experience they want. I try to apply to any job I can find, no matter what experience they are looking for, but there is no way around this, unless I lie, and I am not going to do that.

Very frustrating!

Not actually listed as a network technician job. Listed as "Technology Support Specialist". Not sure where I got the "network technician" from. I guess because network related problems is listed in the description.

The job description is:
Responsible for providing technical support to end-user community on hardware, software, and network related problems, questions and use.

Requirements: Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field; 3-5 years experience; Microsoft Office Suite; Basic computer skills; Cerner; Standard Office Equipment; Critical thinking skills; A+ Certification; Net+ Certification.

The actual question was "Do you have a minimum of 3-5 years experience working as an IS Technology Support Specialist?"

That does seem quite frustrating.

I have a slightly different perspective. Any organization that is so unsophisticated in their hiring process where they favour automated tools to "interview" and qualify candidates are not likely to encourage creativity or innovation. Most likely the technology culture at that organization is one of credentials versus actual accomplishments and experience.

It sounds like a dull and uninteresting place to work for an IT professional. I think you are better off elsewhere.

I think it says more about HR picking a crappy application software than anything about the actual work environment or culture of the place.

Do you know anyone who works at the hospital you are applying at? Perhaps they know someone, who knows the IT person in charge of hiring that could get your resume to them? Just a thought.

Possibly that I'm taking a giant leap to my conclusion.

But HR is just another support function to any company and usually not in the position to determine skill qualifications. If hiring managers believe that this is a good way to screen candidates, then it seems like they have a narrow view of IT professionals.

Also, if HR is making the the technical decisions on which applications to buy or use... shudder..

For my org, HR checks for the minimum requirements and forwards you onto the hiring agency or declines you. But you are able to appeal and I know two people personally that have done that and went forward.
