New Job!!! Fastest Turn Around Ever

I was offered a new job at cloud based service provider in my area. Thank god I've been at my current job for almost 7 years and it was a good job but, I need a change. I was surprised to see how fast this headhunter/new company moved. On Sunday i received a e-mail from a headhunter about this job. So at 7 pm at night I responded to his e-mail and he replied to the e-mail right away, we e-mail back and forth for 30 mins. I gave him my resume and he said that his client would have it first thing in the morning. Because it was a headhunter I didn't put too much faith in him at first.

At noon the next day I received an e-mail from the headhunter with a couple of questions from the client about my resume. I answered the questions and then at 2pm I had an e-mail asking for an in person interview. I had a test for WGU on Thursday so the best time that worked out for the client and myself was 7 pm the same day.

I went to the interview and we talked for about an hour. The standard interview stuff my background, my experience, what their company does etc. At the end of the interview they said I'd hear something by the end of the week. So i drove home replaying the interview in my head, looking for what I could do better for future interviews. I realized during the interview that regardless how the interview went I'm more valuable then what my current job is paying me and I'll stuck in my current position. The worst case scenario was that the interview would be interview practice. I decided to officially start my job search if this interview didn't pan out.

I got home and had a late dinner with my girlfriend, we talked about our days and my interview. At 9:30 I got to my computer to start studying for my WGU test on Thursday and I had an e-mail waiting for me. It was the headhunter forwarding the e-mail he got from the client offering me the job. So from 7 PM Sunday to 9:30 PM Monday was all it took. It's a week later and i'm still shocked that it only took 26.5 hours. This my last week at my current job and I'm enjoying it knowing that enjoyed most of my time here but, i'm moving on to bigger and better things.

So I one week I found an awesome new job without trying and passed the CIW Javascript Certification. Now I have to manage working on school stuff with getting up to speed on SharePoint and Exchange for my new job

Thank You after my first day (21st) I'll let you know how it goes. During my interview They kept on mentioning that I'd have to get up to speed on exchange. So after i got the job offer e-mail I went on amazon and ordered the exchange book to get a start on it. Then yesterday I received a Welcome to the company e-mail and had some paperwork for me to fill out. I had some questions about some of the stuff in the e-mail so I called them and they said they already had a SharePoint project lined up for me. So last night I went back on amazon and order the SharePoint book. In my interview i made it clear that I've set up SharePoint as a glorified file server but, that is what this customer is looking for apparently.

The funny thing is i didn't expect any of this to happen so before i received the first e-mail on Sunday I used a amazon gift card I got for Christmas to buy the CCNA Security and CCNA Voice books. Then 10 hours later i had to buy more books.

Nice job! You obviously made a great impression. I recently had the exact same experience and even have the same start date.

You sound like you could really use a Safari Books online subscription. I love it, save a lot of money on books. Especially makes me feel better about the times I would buy a book and not use it as much as I thought. Or when you want specific chapters from multiple books.

@Bloogen I like the physical copy of the book, I find its easier for me to study. Also anytime any of my friends make jokes/comments saying IT is easy I point to my shelves of books and so OK have fun catching up.

I'm in the exact same position just not all the way there yet. Been at my current job 8+ years. Kinda bored and burned out here, looking for something more challenging and hoping to land it. Put my resume out there today and already had a call for a position at Cisco and scheduled calls this week for three other jobs. Hope I have the same good fortune as you did. Landing the Cisco gig would be sweet!

Service providers generally churn and burn pretty quickly so it doesn't surprise me you were hired on so quickly. Most MSP's or ISP's move extremely quick.

I said I add a post after my first day so here it is. My first day was good standard paper work and what not but, there was a sense that I have room to grow and a lot more options in this company. Which is good because at my last job a small OEM/VAR I couldn't move any higher unless I wanted to wait a decade until some one hit retirement. Overall things are good and on my second day I get to jump right into some Cisco training so my advice to anyone who feels stuck. Go explore your options you'll never know what you'll find until you put yourself out there.
