Just had the best job interview!

So I have been out of work for 4 months now. I signed up for a government contract that never panned out and have been applying to every position in my area since.

This was my 2nd interview in the public sector and really wasn't expecting much after the first one didn't go so well. However, this was a totally different experience. The job I had applied for was Computer Support Coordinator. I get to the interview and they hand me a questionnaire and say that I have 20 minutes to fill it out; 20 questions, all short answer. I finished in about 15 and there were only a few things that I couldn't remember or haven't dealt with before.

So then I get taken to a conference room and am given the job description: Cybersecurity Investigator.

I couldn't stop smiling for the entire interview and totally forgot to mention a couple of things that would have totally sealed the deal. They said that they had 18 applicants for the position and setup interviews with the top 5. So I only have 4 people to beat out.

Like I said, it is a public sector job, so the pay is less than I want, but the benefits are extraordinary and there is very little chance that I would lose the job that wasn't my choice.

I can't remember the last time I couldn't sleep because I was so excited. They said that they will make a determination on Friday and let me know either Friday or Monday.

I already have a job offer on the table for a temp job that I will take if I don't get this one. So I will be at least going back to work next week.

Yeah it would be an incident handler position. They were telling me that they contribute to about a dozen prosecutions per year and have aided some three-letter federal agencies. I have been going over the interview in my head and I keep thinking of things I could have done better. The more I think about it, the less I expect to get an offer for this one.

However, I had another interview with different state agency for Tech Support II that I seriously knocked out of the park. I was number 8 of 9 interviews they were doing and know that I did better than the previous 7 from their reactions and it seemed like a really fun place to work. On my way out the door, I asked how long the onboarding process takes and was told it could be up to 6 weeks. 2 more state job interviews this week and that's all I have lined up for now.

I need money coming in, so I've decided to take the temp job for now.

Job hunting and dating seem so similar, and I really hate dating. I am ready to be employed so I can focus on getting into grad school.

I accepted the temp job and start there on the 31st, after a background check.

Just had another interview today that I couldn't get a read off of the interviewers. They are interviewing about 35 or 40 people for 3 openings and I am right in the middle of the bunch. Don't expect anything out of that one, but it seems like a very interesting job: maintaining all the IT in police cars.

One more interview tomorrow for a networking position and I am done with this round.

Actually, it went very well. I was the last person that they were interviewing, which I like. One part of it was drawing a network diagram. They handed me a blank piece of paper and said to use 1 Router, 3 Switches, 3 Servers, and 7 Workstations. So I asked if there was a scenario or primary goal of the design like security, reliability, or segmentation, and they said that no had asked that. They said that I had 10 minutes and they left, so I sketched out 3 designs, one for each goal, in a couple of minutes and sat there. They said that they were making their decision that day and that HR would let whoever they decided know in 2 to 4 weeks.
