Another WGU Grad!

Finally done!!! Got my last task stream notification this morning. I am so excited, I can hardly sit down to type this up...

Overall, my experience at WGU has been excellent. I started 14 months ago, in the Network Admin emphasis, but ended up switching to the regular B.S. degree after hitting a wall with the 642 exam.

The good stuff:

1. Get certs while earning your degree
2. No breaks in between quarters messing up your learning.
3. Graduated with zero debt.
4. Was able to do most of the degree at work during downtime, so minimal impact on family time.

The not so good stuff:

1. I now have some certs that are worth little. I would never call myself a "javascript specialist" or "web design specialist" I understand the basics and can work with them, but I feel I have at best, foundational knowledge.
2. Java: specifically KFT1. That last task is way too much work for a 4 CU class. I spent more time working on java, than almost all my other courses. That said, I did learn to code and checking syntax does help with troubleshooting.


Now, its time for a break, for a while anyways. I've gotten so used to studying over the last 5 years, that I always need to be working on learning something. I am going to start learning Russian again, I had put it off after starting at WGU.

As far as certs, I am going to start at square one again with the 642 and get that passed this year, along with the 646. I really want to get into network security, but I need to learn more about networking, so I am thinking of doing the CCNA, then hitting some security specializations.
