Failed after 3rd attempt!!!

I honestly don't know what to say. I have taken this test 3 times now and can't ever seem to get it right. Each time I have taken the test I have scored between 800 and 825. And every time I get the print out after the exam, the lowest category is Technology.

It seems like this time the exam focused more on EIGRP where as last time there was more focus on Spanning Tree. It is amazing to me how they can focus on one subject for so many questions and totally ignore other areas of testing.

xxxxxxx

I guess I am just going to have to study some more and hopefully pass this thing eventually. It’s very frustrating and makes me feel like a complete idiot that I use most of this on a day to day basis yet can't pass this exam.

I just want to let other out there know that you’re not the only one if you have had to take this exam as many time as I have. Because of the wait period after failing the first exam, I guess it won't be until next Wednesday before I give it another attempt.

Don't give up! Maybe try a different study method? The CCNA exam is hard and a lot of people have failed it more than once. Your not an idiot! Your scores are almost there. Take a break for a week or so then start up again.

Have faith you can do it!

BTW, try not to include actual exam questions in your post. That breaks the agreement you signed when you took the test. Cisco can ban you from any furture certs. I'm not trying to be mean here, I just don't want to see anyone get in trouble.

Best of luck with your studies!!

What have your study methods been? Which books, sims, test generators, ect.

Maybe give yourself a month before you go back at it instead of a week. If you cram to hard you wont absorb as much material.

And perhaqps you really know the material, but just arent a good test taker, is that possible? Do you get extremely nervous when you go to take a test? There are ways to help with that as well, tell us what you think and we can give some recomendations.

Dont beat on yourself to hard, Cisco tests are tricky icon_wink.gif

Im assuming you know your material very well. Given if you do.

Read each question very carefully. When I mean carefully, that means read it fully and look for key words. A general rule that I follow when taking hard test is to make sure that their are no tricks in the questions.

For isntance if you have a router and it displays 6 host. The question would be what is the appropriate subnet to configure.

Most people would jump to the answer of 255.255.255.248

But the trick in the question will not stand out. You need to assign a host IP address to the Routers Interface. So 6 host becomes 7. The 7th host bit would be on the broadcast of 255.255.255.248

So the correct answer would be 255.255.255.240

This is just one example. I take test very fast and I always fall for tricks like these and it cost me points everytime. Slow down and take your time. Use process of elimination on each question. By eliminating the wrong answeres first you are increasing the odds of selecting the right answeres.

IF your not doing well on technology hit the books.

I made myself 200 index flash cards just on little things about technology portion of the test. Like what protocol uses what updates, admin distances, OSPF uses this and that.

I have basically have almost all 600 flash cards i made myself memorized. I also included simple command lines to setup certain protocols on my flash cards.

Study hard for a few weeks and hit that test again and never give up!!!

You should follow everyone's advice regarding this subject. Dont call yourself an idiot though... self discretion makes you less confident and the confidence drop will cause you more problems while test taking. Just take a step back and start again.

Flash cards are a good start... and even though I really havent seen this site promote 'transcender questions' (btw... I dont believe in them!) but some of my co-workers use them as a study reference and take their pre-tests before they actually take the real test. Again, I do not believe just memorizing the answers... I am saying to use them as a pre-test and find out where you are at.

If spanning tree is difficult, then go back to the chapter on switching and reread it 5 times. Whatever the case, just make sure you understand subnetting. That and WAN troubleshooting. Those questions are always asked the most.

    Good luck.

That's just because they don't pay us to do so. ;) Seriously though, we (I, TechExams.net, and many of the members in the forums) do recommend Transcenders as being a good product. Somewhat pricy, but certainly good. Especially the thorough explanations make it valuable imo. There are plenty of other good alternatives though.

I too agree the test is very tricky and failure rate is high. I dont remember but i read it somewhere within the forum that ( and i followed this thing after failing the last ICND test with 782) read the questions and dont start looking at the answers straight away... Stop for a second and think yourself what's the correct ans for that question ... this will most probably eliminate most of the answers that are just there to confuse people!

I followed this method and after giving practice exams i agree that i have improved a bit... still will i be able to pass ... i can only tell after giving next test icon_wink.gif

good luck with forthcoming test :)

WebMaster... thanks for the clarification. Transcenders do work very well for others and it is a good place to judge yourself before you take a test. I guess.. I just relate transcenders to "Braindumps" and sites like TK make it too easy to memorize questions. That is one reason why I like this board! I havent seen... "Whats the answer to this question: 89. Router A..."

Personally Im trying to build my own confidence by passing a test with just study and knowledge. If I cant pass it with out the assistance of alternate question sets... then how would I be able to progress to the higher certifications like CCIE. But, that is just my 5 baht worth!
