Rehiring from the Same Company

I was told from a friend that if you worked for a company on an contract role and didn't get converted full-time, that you're never going to get rehired from that same company, is that true?

I think YMMV is the term best used here. I've seen people who worked for an organization get down-sized out, brought back as a contractor and then subsequently rehired. So again, my answer is YMMV. Silly huh?

Depends on the contract that was in place. I know around here with Wells Fargo, you are not allowed to go longer than 18 months on a contract then have to take a six month break before you can work another contract with them. Other than that, you can still get hired on full time, but again depending on the contract you had, the company might have to pay a "finders fee" if a certain amount of time hasn't passed if you are hired outside of the contracting company (after your contract is over).

Not true at all

First stint I was a tier one service desk tech for 1.9 years and then took a 6 month project and swung back into the same company for another year as a tier 2 tech.

Same thing happened for a service provider I worked for. I was there for 1.2 years left for 8 months and came back for 6 months. I even receive a recommendation from the last MSP that they would hire me back in a second if the opportunity was right.

Probably depends on the company... I can't imagine a business scenario not to rehire unless a former employee was placed on the do-not-hire list because of a problem. We rehire former contractors, consultants, and employees all the time.

Was this written in the contract, or was this told to you upfront?

It's not usually told to you as the contractor. It's in the contract between the temp agency and the employer. You can usually ask them and they might give details but they don't offer them upfront on the hire date in most cases. Usually the contract says something along the lines that they can't hire you for X amount of time after you stop contracting with them or else they pay a finder's fee

@Alhaji265 Iristheangel is spot on. Its not something they tell you, but if you ask they will confirm it.

I don't find this to be true at all. My employer (Top 20 Fortune 100) rehires people who have contracted previously. I know several people at the company that did a contract and it wasn't re-upped for budget reasons or they just weren't needed anymore but then I've seen them later re-hired either on another contract in a different area or perm. As stated, if they are put on the do not hire list or they performed less than expected that could be a different situation.
