Going through my network

I have been looking for work and I know a person who is a Director for a technology firm in the Northeast region. Should I reach out to him and ask for a job and how do I go about it? He is affiliated with a training program I recently graduated from and has gave alumnus jobs through his network. Thanks.

Tell him that you are requesting his help in finding a job. -- but I sense you already want to say that ....I guess you're moreso asking about what sort of "tone" you should set.

As long as you're respectful, and make clear that you are making a "request" and not a "demand" then it shouldn't be that big a deal.

Maybe something like this:

Sir:

Good evening.

I recently completed your training course in <Subject> on <Date>. I really enjoyed the class, and I feel that I learned quite a few things. Unfortunately, I have not been able to turn that training opportunity into real job prospects. I would really appreciate if you could point me in the right direction on how I can turn what I learned during my training into employment.

If it's over the phone, maybe the best time of day to call is in the morning. Say your pleasantries, but still try to get to the point.
