show ip route and protocols

Regarding "show ip route" command and protocols.

If the table says (other than directly connected ones)

10.2.2.1 via 198.162.22.52

or

10.3.4.2 via serial 0/1

Does it mean, in order to get to 10.2.2.1, go through 192.162.22.52? OR
to get ot 10.3.4.2, go through serial 0/1?

Thanks.

It will have the outgoing interface in there as well on your first example unless you are doing a recursive lookup on that route as with BGP.

On the second one it will be that way if you do a static route with just an exit interface and not next hop.

Either way the router is showing where it will forward traffic for this destination.

The first one shows its not a directly connected network but reachable from the interface with that 192.x address.
The second one, with just what you provided, may be a directly connected network but thats the interface to reach it.
