in CCNA & CCENT
I passed ICND today 860. The simulation was a simple rip I was looking for something harder than that. I can't believe after all the studying I did though I froze up and could not remember whether a Feasible succesor was a backup route for EIGRP. I saw alot of ACL questions (good thing I re-read that chapter), and alot of subnetting. One in particular stumped me with a 254 mask. But I did ok I was going to try and study at work last night but was terribly busy and didn't even get to cram.

kypumper Member Posts: 35 ■■□□□□□□□□I went throught the Cisco Curriculum at school. I used Wendell Odoms book ICND study guide, and I had some books from school Cisco Networking Academy Companion Guided CCNA 1-2 and CCNA 3-4.I love the Search Function!

kypumper Member Posts: 35 ■■□□□□□□□□I think the thing that helped me the most was the fact I had 3 router at home and I would practice setting up protocols and do the debug commands and shut down and interface to try to see what the debug commands were telling me.I love the Search Function!

QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277Let me ask you a question on the Academy books. Do you think they are a good reference material or a good study material? Im looking at them for Sem 5-8 with the work journal but I can ask your opinion for the NA portion of them.
BTW... congrats."To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation." -
kypumper Member Posts: 35 ■■□□□□□□□□I think they are very wordy and dry to read. Cisco made there material online and it was a little more to the point I thought. I loved the Wendell Odom book I would read his chapter after reading the Cisco Academy books and everything would click, but I don't feel like he covered everything You needed to know about OSPF and EIGRP.I love the Search Function!

blork_98 Member Posts: 48 ■■□□□□□□□□Hi, I've just started to study for the CCNA exam... my question is, can I pass the exam just by using the certification library by wendell odom and do I really need hands on practice? and if so, is it worth it to buy the boson netsim or the ccna virtual lab dat comes with lammle's book? I've been reading the books and studying at borders since i dont wanna put down a lot of money for books till i find out the best one to get.. thnx

jd_mattos Member Posts: 134The Sybex 5th edition is very good, but the Odom book is pretty good too.
I would say buy the Sybex 5th edition, and you will get a router sim that is pretty good. The Boson netsim is also pretty good, minus some flaws, but it also very expensive.
If you can get some time on real equipment, that would help a lot. I did not go out and buy a home lab as some do, but I have had a lot of experience with equipment at work.
Good Luck on your studies.
Also the Sybex book lacks in the NAT and PAT area, so get another source or 2 for that area. -
QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277As always... try reading the Sybex and Cisco Press if you have the time and the money to purchase both books. You can also look into Safari Bookshelf which rents .pdfs of tech books for under 20 dollars.
You do not need equipment to pass this test but equipment or labs help out understandign the hands on aspect of the test. It is said that if you fail both simulations... you will fail but who knows...."To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation."
